No, meds messed me up even more. They only served as a bandaid and was a money pit.

They may help when you begin to take them but lm broken by benzos. I would let your hands off this poison.

If this is your first time trying it's worth a go.
But heed mine and others warning, benzos are nothing but trouble in the long run.

I had good results with Prozac. Bit I fucked myself, meds are a viable option, but know that they do come with their own pitfalls.
Only use the Ativan as and when you need it.
DONT use them consistently. Only when it's really too much to bare. A couple times a week shouldn't cause problems, but everyday is asking for trouble.
I took myself of Prozac when I realised that taking them made my depression worse.
They basically done their job, so I no longer needed them.

I wish you luck on your journey. I hope they do what they are supposed to do.

Feel free to pm me if you have anymore concerns, questions.

Yes, they have helped me get through bad temporary circumanstances.
Would make everything seem funnier than what it was.
Unfortunately now I don't see the point as my problems won't go away anymore but they could work for you especially if your situation. Is just temporary

This is important, these situations we find ourselves are often temporary.
Exploring every avenue to recovery is important, it is possible.
For me I've exhausted all possible routes. There is no turning back.
Again good luck. SS will be here for you when you need it. ❤️

I've been on medication since I was around 7. The only pills that ever really "helped" me are the ones that I am current talking - Xanax, Propranolol, and Paxil. But no medication is gonna "fix" you. At best it will only take a slight edge off. Plus meds work differently on different people. What may take a slight edge off for you may make things worse for me and visa versa. I wish you the best of luck.

Yes, the doctors that prescribe the meds are helped by the money you contribute to their families when they rip you off. For those actually taking meds however, there is no way you can rely on a drug to "cure" depression. Period.

They make it worse and destroy you physically in the process. It's a money making scheme and nothing more.

The funniest aspect is that even their own industry-financed studies show they're ideally not better than placebo. Often a lot worse..

It's quite fucked up that doctors prescribe benzos to anxious/depressed people knowing they're addictive and the patient will be in worse shape than before they began.

That was a shitty psychiatrist, prescribing you a benzo twice a day?
And paxil is shit, im currently taking it and still suicidal, it just makes it so i cant cry.
The only time i didn't feel like shit was when i went tanning often. So if you really want to recover, get your vitamin d checked, take magnesium and get lots of sun.

Meds help me quite a bit. Which may seem contradictory since I'm on here. But there you have it. I have had bad withdrawals from Paxil, and have had one bad reaction to an anti-psychotic - but other than that I haven't had issues and I've been on lots of different types of drugs, and probably about all the available anti-depressants. Worth a shot. Just probably stay away from benzos, and if you do take them, take as prescribed and taper taper taper if you have to go off them. Never stop cold turkey. I've seen a lot of folks here damaged from that.

I'm scared to take medication. I've had some good instances where it helped with my anxiety/nausea but I've heard so many stories of how hard it is to just stop taking them so that makes me a bit wary. Especially benzos.

For slot of people it's in how you take them. Benzos are great at stopping panic, and calming you when you NEED it, other than that, they really are evil.
I never had to taper Prozac, bit paroxetine I did. I'm also 'stuck on mirtazapine. Tried tapering that along with benzos. Wouldn't reccomend it.
My point is meds can be very helpful for some, but unfortunately, for others, they just make things a hell of a lot worse .

I hope they will help you.

I don't like Ativan as a benzo for "taking the edge off" personally but to each their own.

Paroxetine made me tired all day, quit it CD and for a week or so I was having costant nightmares but at the same time felt extremely energetic, aggressive (not in a bad way tho) and dishinibited. Kinda liked whithdrawing from that drug ahahaha.

My experience with medications is far from great but I'd say give 'em a try.
Just don't get addicted to Ativan, use it only as needed. Benzo WD is fucking hell.

Ativan, or any benzo really, shouldn't be taken for longer than 2-4 weeks, no matter what your doctor says.

This website is really useful, the formatting is bad, but lots of good info about responsible use of benzos, if you are going to take Ativan, I'd highly recommend checking it out. https://www.benzo.org.uk/asgr.htm

Same experience with Paxil. Felt like hell but couldn't cry (or come) which made me feel worse. How is that helpful?

And similarly, watch out for side effects unique to you. Overall meds have helped me, some very much. Even for long periods. Addictions havn't been a problem for me yet for once. Side effects for me have been common though. At times, extremely unpleasant. Some permanent. But if my goal is to remain on this planet, and maybe even still really enjoy it occasionally, meds have helped.

Went to a psychiatrist today
I'm so sorry, lol.

I guess meds have helped me marginally. They've taken the edge off and allowed me to goof around more without getting all emotional and whatnot, but obviously none of the underlying issues have been fixed.

Hi, @BurningLights, I wanted to ask you about stopping Prozac: a feat I would also like to accomplish. In another of your posts, I think I recall your writing that you did not need to taper with Prozac. Is that true? If so, I am also curious about the possibility of doing that, too. Wondered if you could tell me more about your experience with this.

Hi, @BurningLights, I wanted to ask you about stopping Prozac.
hullo, @BurningLights was last seen @ SS on december 3rd, 2018, so might not answer. for a general guide you can check this one by Harvard Medical School... but for real-life advice/experiences, i think you'll have more luck by searching through or asking at a non-SS mental-health site, e.g.: the dedicated prozac subforum (>10,000 posts) at depressionforums.org, the Mental Health Forum, or somewhere similar. either way best of luck, hope you find some helpful info/advice.

Anti-psychotics made my schizophrenia go into remission. I echo the warnings about benzo's, only use for very short term or occasionally as addiction happens quickly and the withdrawals are awful.
