Either I would make it through it not, but it would be a pretty crazy experience. Same deal was happening in Iraq. The Yazidis would bankroll people who would fight on their side. I don't think it was a lot, but it was more about supporting a persecuted group of people.

I'm inclined to agree though. The chance of a conflict is 50/50, and if a conflict happens, the likelihood of it being limited, for the sake of saving Vlad's face (and barechested, horse-riding muscle) is pretty high. The Russian army has built up on the borders, but it's around 145k now, and the Ukrainian army is about 250,000--Russia of course has superior technology, but a full-scale invasion doesn't make a lot of sense. The most that will probably happen is an attempt to depose the current government, but I think the Russians would be content with just bombing the country's economy, and grabbing some more territory in the east and leaving it at that. We (us Amerikuns) tried a full-scale invasion and occupation twice in the past two decades, and shit doesn't go over well.

I think this will always be the case. You can kind of control things with a large presence and superior technology. But as soon as you leave, or even reduce your forces, things go to shit.

Russians basically refuse to see Ukrainians as a separate ethnic group. Ukraine is a very big, complex country (the second-largest European country after Russia). It gained independence for the first time in its messed-up history in 1991 & its eastern & southern regions are heavily Russified - many ethnic Ukrainians still speak Russian as their first language. There's even something called Surzhyk - a blend of Russian & Ukrainian. Ukraine is extremely corrupt, impoverished & its economy is deeply integrated with Russia's; it's totally and utterly fucked.

Also, yes, the Russian Empire feels very threatened by NATO expansion.
