I love general chat, but they're all ready to die at age 25 or something. I'm 56 and just getting my groove back on. Anyone there who gets this? HELP. I ain't dead yet! I have a lot to still offer. I know there's a Recovery chat, but no one is ever there.

I'm a bit older. I think the chat room is simply not helpful. I don't want to be too critical of SS members because I have found that other chat rooms, especially those that involve computer games have similar problems.
Most people I have gotten to know have been through the forums. I don't expect that to change.
Sadly the current group of regulars in the SS chattoom these days are far less toxic and pathological than those I have encountered in the past.
I didn't even know there was such thing as a Recovery chat room. The general chat room occupies too a central position on the dashboard of the site and it would be better to minimize it.
Right now I'm feeling less desire to CBT but the thought is always there so I honestly don't know where I stand but day to day I'm just trying to get on with my life without leaving SS as I've done in the past when I feel better. I don't need SS to CBT. I made my plan years before I heard of this site and nothing has convinced me to change it should the need arise..

I know what you mean. I am in there frequently because of my need for real-time interaction, but I often feel out of place. Generally, I'm not ready to CBT, or have plans in the near future to do so. I also do not understand some of the subject matter discussed in the chat room, or just have a lack of interest in those subjects to add anything of value. If I am feeling chatty, I just fake my way through a conversation in there. If you ever see me in chat, and you want to go to recovery, just send me a PM. I'd be happy to have a conversation with you there or in the PM.

Just turned 57. Yeah, I get it. Many of the concerns and reasons cited for wanting to CTB are understandable, but also things many of us older folks also encountered and had to deal with one foot in front of the other anyhow. But I do see some issue on common with those younger folks, like the terrible effects on self-worth when one lives by the metrics of society such as status and financial wherewithal and career. I like the "WAAAAAAA" That's the ring on my phone.
