Video games are literal virtual realities that mirrors our own god forsaken world, the repeated everyday struggle of challenge and overcoming tough obstacles is just fucking tiring, lets not mention how addiction is intentionally designed into modern day games. Movies on the othet hand are actually great at givinh me a chance to view somebody elses point of view with very little effort on my part needed. I like animation especially since it often satirizes the crap out of reality and I just fucking love it, im looking at you south park you sexy beast! I dont watch superhero movies or newer mainstream movies since their roller coaster rides and not really well you know real fuckint movies! The exception is Joker and Logan. What you guys think about media today?

When I can enjoy video games I like it. I like making people leave games because they can't kill me. Gaming community is pretty toxic- but I can feed off that, I can be a bit of a troll.

Movies suck. Nothing worse then a false reality full of beautiful people played by over paid Scientologists, full of product placement and shit music sucking my brain out. At least some video games require thought and I'm not sitting there mindlessly consuming.

I like some video games like Kenshi or Crusader kings 2. I like it when its the story you make instead of finishing the game overall, its so satisfying to see the interesting way your game ends thrn do it all over again.
By movies im talking indie flicks, anything from before the 1980s and alot of foreign stuff. Did anybody watched gaspar noe's 'Seul contre tous'?
Bladerunner 2049 is also great at telling reality to fuck off for a good 2 and a half hours

I have the opposite opinion to be honest.
I can't get into movies or series because i have trouble keeping myself from interacting with something for the span of the movie.
I can watch a movie of course but i always find more excitment in interacting with what i'm watching.
Not to mention that a game is a much longer and complete experience with more things to delve into.

I find both unfulfilling, especially if overindulged but video games take more brain power/actual input at least. I rarely do either, don't have the energy for video games nor the patience for a movie/tv show i've seen the plot of a hundred times already.

So I'm the only one who still likes radio? I like how you can just change the channel and be (un)pleasantly surprised. No need to think about what to watch, play, etc. Digital radio is especially great since there's so many channels. There's so much music I would've never discovered using youtube or streaming services - those tend to just point you to music similar to what you already know. Talk radio can be fun too. I also enjoy trying to make sense of programs in a language I'm only somewhat familiar with (speeds up my duolingo progress too :hihi:).

Maybe digital radio is different. But FM in America sucks so much. The entire FM playlist in America could fit on a 512mb SD card. They all use the cheesey voice too *cowbell, bicycle horn* " Hey this is Jack and Buster in the morning!" *Bicycle horn* Up next T Swift for the 80th time followed by Nickel Back.

I can relate, most songs are about romance one way or another. Sounds like you're ready for some black metal !

Ugh, that sounds like a nightmare :ohhhh:. You might wanna try internet radio or a (digital) world receiver radio.

I'm not really interested in games anymore. They're not an escape from reality at all. I like the older ones that don't resemble real life and also take me back to my childhood. As for movies it's a similar story. I'm sick of superheroes. I need something I can invest in that resonates with me on some level. I tend to watch the same things a lot that I know I like. I'm bad at giving new things a go and I don't even play the games I like much anymore. Guess I don't want to give myself things to live for because they're not enough.

Duolingo is a website (and an app) that offers a googolplex of free language courses. Languages include (but are not limited to) English, Spanish, French, Japanese, Russian, Hindi, Arabic, Klingon... It's a fun distraction and once you get started it's hard to stop. It uses some of the same mechanics addictive video games use .

I'm sorry if I came across that way. I sincerely enjoy radio (I know most mainstream radio channels suck, but there's literally millions of other channels out there) and language learning. I just wanted to share my passion for both :notsure:. Wishing you all the best .

Videogames are better for me to distract myself. Because you are more active, you are taking actions. Watching movies is not bad but it's a passive action. I play chess 1-2 hours a day to distract myself from suicidal thoughts.

Movies are alright, although I find it hard to get that much fulfillment and excitement from them. But once in a while I'll watch some movie that surprises me and sticks with me for a while. About a month ago I watched The Talented Mr Ripley for the first time. I had never seen it or even heard about it prior, had no idea what the movie was about. I watched it and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Those kinds of experiences with movies are my favorite, the kind of movies you go into with no prior knowledge/judgment on and you end up liking the movie a lot.

I don't play video games anymore. I played video games a decent amount (although never a ton) when I was a teenager but in my twenties I slowly lost interest in games and by the time I hit my mid twenties I virtually stopped playing all together. Idk why but I always get bored playing video games within 20 minutes or so, they just aren't able to keep my attention like they used to.

Shows/series are too long and too much of a time sink for me to invest in. I've never been a show kind of person. It seems like these days everyone has some specific show/series they watch on Netflix or some other streaming service.

The media I overwhelmingly consume is the news and YouTube videos.

Youtube has gotten mediorce over the past year or so and everything relating to politics is always race driven/centered arguments that has gotten tiresome after the past decade.
I like movies that came from the underground and isnt filtered out by hollywood.
I miss the exploitation days of cinema :(

YouTube was better back in the day. It seems like since the adpocalypse (don't remember when that happened but I think it was 2016 or 2017) YouTube and it's algorithm prioritizes corporate/mainstream content and channels over smaller/less well known users. But the part I loved about YouTube was how it felt like an entire world to explore. I remember I used to find small channels with perhaps a couple thousand or tens of thousands of subscribers that were new and exciting filled with new content for me to watch and think about. These days that just doesn't happen anymore or at least it's a lot harder to find channels and new content like that anymore.

I'm more into animated movies more than realistic movies. Same goes with TV shows. I usually prefer video games over movies unless the game I'm playing is too hard and I'm in the mood for some passive activity. For series, I don't really watch anything other than anime. Realistic TV shows don't keep me engaged as much as anime does.
