Hey guys. This fourm mentions using a metal ring on your neck to help with low suspension hanging...but I dont quite get it. Maybe one of you can better clarify how to use the ring method. Just scroll down until you see the words mental rings.

I've read that before. I'm also slightly confused on the details but the idea is to relieve pressure on your windpipe (same pressure over a larger area is easier to handle), I think. It seems that that only works if you use a pretty thin rope/twine/shoelace/something. I'll attach some pictures as an example of how I think it's meant to look. The first one should be what I think the author is talking about (with some string going through the middle of the ring). 11026 11027 The second picture is the only other thing I can come up with but I really doubt that's what he meant because that doesn't make any sense when you think about it. And just in case it needs to be said, this is just an example from a keyring and some ribbon, not anything you might use to actually do it. I think it'll be hard to strike the balance between a material that'll be able to wrap around the ring and that will still hold lots of weight without snapping.

Formatting ain't very good because I'm on mobile, sorry.

Previously asked on this thread:

I remember another post in the hanging mega thread where someone said it's not needed and virtually nobody uses it.

Yeah, I remember reading about this a long time ago. As far as I can deduce, the metal ring is meant to go directly over the "Adam's Apple" (aka. Laryngeal prominanance), so that the ligature isn't pressing directly upon it. If you do not have a very prominent Adam's apple (most women, and immasculine men such as myself) then this would be an unnececary step, I think.
