I've decided it's time to ctb. I'm planning on buying a shotgun today, or sometime relatively soon. I'm 18 so pretty sure for a traditional shotgun I should be able to go in, pass a background check, pay and leave. Shouldn't be too much trouble considering the only conviction I've had is misdemeanor public drunkeness.

What is the process like? What can I do to avoid raising suspicion? Should I have some general info lined up to respond to questions?

Extra helpful if you bought your gun in Minnesota and can provide insight. Thanks.

18? What could be unfixable at 18?
I'll never find joy, love or anything meaningful. Why bother living if clearly I'm just a dead end? I feel like 18 years is sufficient to understand where I stand in society.

Honestly, I might have known back then too. I had talents but I was already pretty weird and alienated. Twice your age now.

I don't see it getting better for myself. I guess I could stick around but all I'd do is engage in meaningless consumption of media and food and drugs to cope with feeling empty and bitter over it.

Where I am, we can buy guns online... so I ordered a gun and ammo online. It will be sent from the warehouse and available for pickup next week. All I need to do is go in to the store, have my background check done, and leave. It's already paid for, so I should be in and out in under fifteen minutes. Buying online is a longer process, obviously, than just going to the store and making a purchase... but it avoids any conversations about what I need a weapon for, going through various guns before deciding on one, any possibilities of awkwardness, etc. I've waited this long, so I can wait another week.

edit: I'm three times the OP's age... and I've spent a lot of time reaching the decision that I've made.

Do you mind my asking what you bought? I wish I'd bought a gun long ago and just had it now. When I was calmer.

I'm going to bookmark this post and answer your question after I pick it up. My concern about writing what I bought on a public forum, when I haven't yet picked it up, is that ATF or some other agency will put out an alert to gun shops about folks picking up that specific gun. Perhaps I'm being overly concerned (paranoid?), but I'm certain there's a way to put out an alert to gun shops when needed. It would be a major oversight if there wasn't.
