I've never come across any convincing arguments why a person should not commit suicide.

I don't really think there is one tbh. I know a few people who aren't suicidal yet they understand and are pro-choice.

I believe there are two types of suicidal people. Most of the people here seem to be suffering from long term issues and are very rational in their choices. I don't think there's much room for argument there, and if you have low quality of life for whatever reason, nobody but you should have a say. Noone else has to live with the pain.

But there are people who simply have a bad day and impulsively leap to suicide as the only solution. This is not rational, and I don't believe something this serious and permanent should be a first response. At the very least, the argument should be to wait awhile and make sure you can't live beyond it. If someone fails a test or breaks up with a person they've known for a week or gets a parking ticket, I think it's wrong to NOT argue a suicidal impulse.

If there's a fixable solution, I think that should be attempted first. Some things like hypothyroidism or low Vitamin D levels can make you suicidal, but fix the imbalance and the urges to die go away. It wasn't a true desire. With something like that, I think there's definitely a good argument against it.

I agree, but I try to think of it in terms of that I haven't come across a reason why I shouldn't ctb. I can't speak for others, and agree with a lot of what @k75 is saying. Generally it's up to the person, but I think everyone has a choice. And I sort of believe people that say they enjoy living? Just like I wouldn't want them to say they can't understand my point of view so it must be incorrect, I wouldn't do that to them either.

i agree with what k75 said. i believe anyone who has truly sought to fix their issues should be allowed the right to die. if someone has been depressed for a few months but hasn't even attempted to get treatment it could be a valid argument that it could very well get better. however if someone has actively tried to fix the problem and have felt no relief then there is no reason for people to tell us we have to continue suffering
