In recent years, the UK has been doubling down again and again with its authoritarianism, to the point that it's frightening to have non-mainstream views while living in the country. The UK has almost the most surveillance cameras per person in the world, and the police has a special elite division monitoring social media posts for anti-government views. The online safety act is one of the most anti-freedom internet acts in the world, and is heavily supported by the two major political parties with no real discussion, with the government now looking to implement social media bans and VPN bans. The police are tormenting people with welfare checks and shutting down protests instead of solving crime. Many people are now in prison for years because of individual social media posts. Living in the UK is increasingly like living in an authoritarian country, not knowing what the police know about you or when they're going to knock on your door.
