Thank you for sharing this, I didn't know about it! I do worry about how some people will be affected by this, like i have a friend with ptsd who completely trips out every time there's a loud unexpected noise šŸ˜•

no problem! i was kinda surprised i didnt see anyone mention this on here before but i guess not a lot of us really look at the news anymore. i was lucky i found it on social media, bc i know if i hadnt my parents who do watch the news wouldnt have told me lol. also yes, not only are people in domestic abuse situations vulnerable to this, i also worry about those sensitive to or triggered by loud sounds. i myself am autistic and loud sounds can trigger melt downs for me. i hope you and your friend stay safe <3

It is possible to disable these notifications. I did this and so did my friend and neither of us received any alert.

It's nice they considered DV situations. Underrated suffering.

My friend told me about it- I'm glad they did- it would have scared the life out of me otherwise...

I just wonder exactly what it's for... what do they know that we don't?!! My Dad mentioned something about fires and floods in the area but surely you'd see that before you were in danger... I don't know. Just seems like a 'justifiable' way to spy on us all... but maybe I'm being paranoid!

yeah im glad i knew about it it wouldve scared the shit outta me too xD i think it's supposed to be used to let people know of things like potential murderers or [insert criminal type here] in the immediate area to increase safety and awareness, as well as probably extreme threats like other countries sending nukes or smthn, but also as you mentioned natural/unnatural disasters like floods and fires etc. that would take too long to get on the news, and potentially reach more people as fewer and fewer people pay attention to the news and most people are on or have their phones nearby. i think if the government wanted to spy on us they'd be doing it already and incredibly discretely, but either way complete privacy is increasingly harder to achieve as technology develops unless youre very knowledgeable in that area, which im not so i dont rly worry much about it its kinda out of my control if that makes sense lmao
