If I tighten a yoke or a rope around my neck so that it puts a little pressure on the carotid arteries and go to sleep, can I die of hypoxia in my sleep?
It's been a year and a half since my first suicide attempt. I also want to die. Nothing has changed, and if I had a gun with a cartridge, I would have done it.
Sorry for the mistakes.

I did a test sort of. I was in the tub, and I put my hands around the sides of my neck, up near the throat part, just under the chin...right below the ears...and I put a lot of pressure, but not enough so I couldn't breathe. Just around the arteries. I almost immediately started to feel a lot of pressure in my head and a painful pounding feeling. That wasn't pleasant at all, even though I could breathe. It felt like my head was going to explode.

you did it wrong friend. You compressed jugular veins that take the blood from brain back to body this way you die rather from artery breaking in your brain and you get one of those episodes.... basically like compressing blood in your head until it explodes. When done right you compress not the surface veins but the carotid and you feel dizzy weak and pass out . The answer to the question since to compress with a rope carotid veins without compressing the throat and then cant breathe is to make such a rope that would have 2 things tied into it when you tie the rope those 2 things would focus more the pressure into the 2 carotid arteries.... ive done it with my fingers you get dizzy weak pass out . I didnt pass with my bear fingers but if done correctly its possible but not as he sayed in his sleep unless he can manage a good engineering setup automated to compress the 2 arteries specifically and while hs is sleeping

When you use your fingers, they will get tingly and weak generally. It's hard to pass out that way.

There are supposedly 2 carotid arteries that bring blood to the brain. 1 is on each side of the neck, behind the jugular vein that brings blood back to the heart. Like settone1994 said, blocking the jugulars causes pain in the head from pressure buildup since blood goes into the head but can't come out, hence increasing pressure and causes agonizing pain. Because the carotids are under the jugulars(1 of each carotid and jugular on each side of the neck),you have to press hard enough to compress both the artery and vein. You can't really just compress the 2 arteries.

You have to have something to pull against your neck so that once you pass out,you stay unconscious.Whether this be from gravity(full suspension hanging or partial suspension hanging),or the night night method like avoid_slow_death mentioned.

So yes, this can kill you. This is how partial suspension hanging works. It's aimed at blocking the blood flow rather than your windpipe so that it's faster(like 20 seconds or less to pass out I'd compressed enough).

Do you have any family? Have you tried getting help at all? Is there anything in life you want to live for?

If you need anyone to talk with,I'm here. If you're feeling suicidal, please take your time. It's been a whole year and a half since your last attempt. Was this because you decided you may want to live? Is this why you didn't try again? Or was it other reasons? Did you feel happy you didn't succeed or not? Just please be sure you're of sound mind if you do end up choosing to end your life. Be absolutely sure it's what you want.

Again,I'm here if you need to talk. We all are. Don't hesitate to chat with us :)

Wow. I wish there was a video that demonstrates it. I'm going to practice with my hands or fingers until I discover the right way. Thanks for letting me know what I was doing wrong. The method I used made it clear to me that THAT method is definitely a no-go. But now I know it's because I was doing it wrong.
