Venting Trying to get on darknet

So at long last, I am working on getting on that darknet. I am not technical at all - but tonight I did manage to download Linux and get my computer using Linux (as I don't have Windows properly). Then...next step is (I think) to download Tor Browser. But on neither Linux nor Windows (because the computer can now run on either) will the Tor browser website load. But the Tor website is working perfectly well on my phone. Before I put Linux on this computer, the Tor browser website was launching on the Windows/Google.

I think I will just have to download Tor using my dad's computer tomorrow - then get it on to my computer with a USB. I think that will solve it.

I am daunted by the dark web, but think I can get my head round it enough to use it.

Excuse me venting - really tired, and my anxiety is really high - but then tomorrow all day I will be useless with depression. So another day begins again. Rock up hill.
update - seem to have downloaded it via Techspot website. Will get on it tomorrow. Nervous.

Be mindful, you will see things you don't want, if a onion (link) doesn't have a clear title to it describing the contents do not click on it. Don't click on any links in chatrooms especially not paste bins such as Crypto or DeepPaste. Use hidden wiki sparsely (it's mostly dead) and ask reddit (you'll have to find the proper subreddit) for help getting the dark.fail links. If you plan on buying off there, get yourself a new email such as Torbox (never use gmail or Yahoo products on tor.). Only buy from sellers offering "escrow" (your money doesn't get taken until the product is confirmed delivery).

I needed Linux because Windows I don't think was properly set up on my computer - I don't think it was paid for - but Linux is free.

Feel really proud I sorted it all - I have never installed anything before. I could almost tolerate all the depression and anxiety if I could learn to code - it was so much fun. I've been wanting to sort this out all year, but have been so depressed I just had no energy, and kept telling myself I wasn't good with computers - when it was easy when I tried.

Thank you again for your safety tips - I will hope to do lots of research before I get involved in it properly for shopping mainly I thikn - not sure what else it is used for?

What did the op mean when the op said he/she put Linux on his/her pc? Should i use tails Linux or can i put Linux on a Laptop or just download the Tor browswer on Windows?

You can download Tor for Windows. My Windows just wasn't properly set up and paid for - so I got Linux for free of charge, then downloaded Tor for Linux. There is lots of guidance online for downloading Tor. For some reason I used code in the Terminal bit of Linux, but I think there was an easier way I missed! but my way was more fun. I am becoming a geek :) Every man in my life has been a geek - so it's about time.

You don't need Linux for Tor browser. I hope your computer or the Windows version isn't too old. It is very easy to download and install Tor Browser. If you have any specific issues, pm me, I can possibly help out.

Dark web and deep net are very mysterious. Google doesn't work there so it might be challenging to get a reliable website. Be wary of scammers and don't search bizarre stuff. The LEA can still find you if they want. Much harder though.

And sorry to hear you keep swaying between anxiety and depression. I'll keep you in my thoughts. *hugs*

Well that is the joy of mental illness for you. The anxiety tonight is better than the suicidal depression in the day.

Who is the LEA? Google says Local Education Authority, but I guess it's not them.

Am going to hope to avoid scammers. I do have a friend who was scammed very badly - but he is naive and too trusting and got scammed for 1000s!

Which flavor of Linux did you download Ubuntu or TaiLs?

Ubuntu. I honestly don't know why. My ex bf I think recommended, but am not sure if I looked at both or not. He is a programmer. But I don't know if the website I looked at offered both. I haven't used it or seen it before - but I like it, and I really like that it's free. I'm not working anymore, so don't have the dosh for Windows. I am also so sick of Windows showing me news stories all the time without me asking for them. It really adds to my stress to have to click off 6 news stories every time I open my computer, often about violence. Linux feels more peaceful and less intrusive.
oh I seee - the TaiLs one offers extra privacy.

I'm really new to this - don't know if I need the extra privacy if I use Tor within Linux. I'm probably not under high surveillance (as it says the TaiLs one is for peope under high surveillance)

I've tried to use Tor but I find it very slow and there are many dead links and search engines that don't give good results.

I'm buying one thing that is meant to be helpful for Treatment Resistant Depression, in case it does work. And also one thing for CTB - not to use immediately, but to have the comfort of knowing I have an exit.

Have to work out this bitcoin thing next!

@LittleJem did you figure out how to make purchases using Bitcoins? Do you bother learning how to encrypt yourself or just use the default option on DW markets? What is supposed to happen after generating a Bitcoin address on your account's "balance" while using electrum as a wallet?
