Video games helped me pass the time and get me to stop thinking about my negative thoughts. If you find ur self having some free time try playing some games and try to find one that suits you and you might get really into it and stop thinking about messed up shit at least for a while. My favorite has been animal crossing new leaf and new horizons, bioshock, the outer worlds, Minecraft, Spiritfarer etc...
Since we r on this site about "death" in a sense..Spiritfarer is a pretty cool one some of u guys might like. I only watched streams of it and it's really pretty in all aspects. I feel like this almost sounds like an ad lmao but I swear I just really like it and wanna maybe help anyone struggling who has the option to play games

I played plenty throughout my life and I just feel like they helped me get to this hell I am right now. But that's only my personal experience, games can indeed provide good leisure and I've seen lots of people not used to gaming having tons of fun and good times with their first videogame experiences; worth giving it a shot, and the more casual the game, the better for starters.

I just play hearthstone and main a priest so I can steal people's decks and fuck with them. It hardly ever works out but at least they win feeling frustrated. It's therapeutic when I feel the way I do now and honestly I'd be surprised if anyone used it for any other purpose given how rampant bad manner emotes and spiteful friend requests are. It's a wretched place.

I love gaming, it's a decent distraction. But sadly, others are getting tired of me doing it. Makes it really hard to enjoy it when people are constantly reminding you that they don't want you to be just passing time.

I'm sorry to hear that, I guess everything is good with some moderation. Too much of anything can be bad:(

This is usually what I do too but lately I haven't had the energy to even play the tiny mobile games I do daily stuff for. This past week has made me cast those aside because I feel like my virtual life deserves to fall apart to...

...maybe I'll get back into things when Steve comes out in Smash next week.

I feel you. I got people snapping at me and calling me an addict that thinks of nothing else just because I got an ad for a game while scrolling Facebook (I wasn't even paying attention to it, I was looking at the tv while the ad played on my cellphone screen, but that was enough to cause indiscriminate finger pointing).

If you like BioShock, SOMA might interest you. That was one of the last games I enjoyed before everything went bland. Another atmospheric game is Alien Isolation. Also Prey is not bad.

In the past I played a lot. I have also spent ages with flight simulation.
It distracted me from dissociation, although if I played too long, the dissociation also got worse.

Nowadays I rarely play anymore because I lost all interests. What I still play from time to time is Planet Coaster, but after 10 mins everything gets boring and I end the game.

I used to watch streams when I was apathetic. The title "Journey" from beginning to (epic) end was particularly soothing.

I've seen colouring books used to assuage anxiety. My sister got me one for my birthday to help the anxiety I was feeling at the time. I used to be an artist and a graphic designer. I was insulted. I found online gaming to be much more relaxing and even a little fulfilling. It's a somewhat more challenging and rewarding version of colouring stuff in. It's helped me at least ground myself a little when I was in panic mode.
The best modern games are amazing. A movie, a book, a game and a work of art all rolled into one. And you are not just an observer, you are immersed in an interactive environment, often with other people.

I think video games can be good to distract the mind once you're already in a bad place. But for somewhat healthy people who are kind of struggling to stay afloat socially I think they carry a risk of worsening things, at least if relied on too much. In my case it's well past my due date so it's not an issue. I use certain games to distract but find that they only provide temporary relief. As soon as I stop playing it's back to my crappy normal. I used to like tower defense games a lot. Now I'm playing games where that use card battles. I feel like it's pretty sad to have to rely on that due to having no career or real friends to speak of. But there's only so much time I'm going to spend reading or watching videos, neither of which are less pathetic really.

I used to spend hours and hours and days and days playing WoW. I might resub for Shadowlands, not sure yet, depends on finances. Games are indeed a great way to immerse yourself in something other than your own thoughts though, they suck up free time and give you freedom to be someone different.

I would because it's a better use of time than this but I've stopped doing what I enjoy because I don't want to make it any harder than it has to be. I don't want to do it at all but because I was too absorbed with videogames in the past I didn't sort my problems out when I had the chance

The title "Dear Esther" was also contemplatively atmospherico cool. No action, just diffuse exploration with austere storytelling. And a final scene of a familiar topic that makes you ponder.

That's typically the kinda shit I'm into rather than pew-pew-pew bbrr brrrrr games

I love games with amazing worlds and storylines like the Uncharted series. I only began playing them a couple of years ago and became very engrossed in it.

Anhedonia is too strong for me to enjoy videos games anymore and I played them since I was a child I even bought a gaming PC and 144hz monitor to play newer games but nothing is fun anymore.

I played about 200 hours of the new Animal Crossing, but it got boring after a while and I haven't been able to motivate myself to pick it up again, even though there are new updates and even though I bought a switch just to play it.

Anhedonia is real and strong af

Funnily enough I tried setting my xbox up again recently
I hate how the elite give us these things and make them so complicated.... Apparently now in 2020 you need a decent Internet connection to actually play the fuckin thing they should put a massive warning on the box for those of us who aren't up to date with tech.
I also bought a 4tb portable drive and tried to partition it... Ended up fuckin it up so the whole thing has wasted hundreds of my money I can't get back and caused me alot of stress.

Sorry I'm ranting I do agree with you but I'm wound up I can't even try to use it and have no one close to me who knows about these things. So if I haven't already permanently broke anything even I took to a computer shop they would charge me ridiculous money to sort it all out. Everything's a con.
Just go back to good old plays ration one and two where you bought the disc and that was the game...
None of this loading hundreds of gigabytes extra and signing up to gold. Honestly I've wasted about £450 and will only be able to sell everything for £100

I've just set up gta again on xbox one...
There was something crazy like 150 gb of updates since a few years... I'm sure some of the cars are different... Have they changed the map or is there more mission's added to game play?

Or was that day it took to download the updates wasted for stuff that is only online?
Thanks for any advice

I tend to find story-based games are the only ones that I can manage. They pull me through the anhedonia and keep me on rails just enough that my OCD doesn't take over and deny me sleep until I've 100% it...mostly. I still remember feeeling like zombie pulled through a blender after collecting all 200+ of those bloody riddler trophies :pfff:

GTA V has gotten a huge amount of updates for the online mode throughout the years. I am pretty sure it's that.

They have added a huge number of different businesses such as drug factories, cargo warehouses and even a casino. There are also new heist missions which add new objects, clothing and weapons too. They have changed some parts of the map yes. You can buy an underground headquarters and complete missions for the IAA (intelligence agency).

Thanks. That's alot of data for stuff I won't be using. This is what Pisses me off I've purchased gta and xbox years ago but because they've updated it I HAVE to download updates or it won't even play as it would when originally bought.

I love rocks tars creativity storyline s and the general piss take of society norms is great the radio talk shows are better than most comedy out there these days.
