There's good ones out there, I was fortunate enough to have a good one when I was stuck in a medical wing for awhile, but there's undeniably a lot of bad ones too.
I think some of it just stems from how conveyer belt medical care is. Doctors tend to look for a one size fits all treatment for any problem they run into for physical ailments, maybe adjusting slightly for a patient's age or prior medical history.
The human psyche is just too complex to place on a conveyer belt. Usually there's a multitude of underlying problems causing the patient distress and just solving one of those things won't magically fix everyone. One hour therapy sessions and meds won't fix everyone. In an "ideal" world everyone would get a personalized, one on one treatment but there's only so many mental health doctors and a fairly high demand for them so the conveyer belt turns on.
I hope the person who abused you was found out and was forced out of the field… But I know scum like him get away with their sins all too often. I'm sorry you went through that and I don't think anyone here would blame you for never seeking professional help again. I've seen a lot of stories here and elsewhere that show how destructive one bad therapist can be to one's already fragile health and their ability to ever trust in the system again.
