On the evening of Saturday, February 22, 2025, a tragic road accident shook the community of Sant'Olcese and Serra Riccò in the Genoa area. On Provincial Road 2, Barbara Wojcik, 36, lost her life following a violent head-on collision between her scooter and a car driven by P.G., a 21-year-old young man residing in the same area.
According to initial reconstructions, the young man lost control of his vehicle, veering into the opposite lane and hitting the woman's scooter, who unfortunately died on impact. The two knew each other: he was a mechanic and managed a club in Vicomorasso where she worked.
Immediately after the accident, overwhelmed by shock and guilt over what had happened, the young man took an extreme action. Inside his car, he used a bladed weapon to sever his carotid artery, losing consciousness almost immediately and dying within minutes from blood loss. Emergency responders, who arrived quickly on the scene, were unable to save him.
Authorities are conducting further investigations to clarify the dynamics of the event and verify if there are other relevant factors. The tragedy has left the entire community in shock, mourning the loss of two young lives in such a sudden and dramatic event. The mayor of Sant'Olcese, Armando Sanna, expressed his condolences to the victims' families, highlighting the collective grief that has struck the town.
The Genoa prosecutor's office has launched an investigation to accurately reconstruct the responsibilities of the accident and understand the details of the young man's final hours, in an attempt to provide answers to the many questions raised by this double tragedy.
