I'm going to be prescribed tradazone shortly and have never had it before.
Has anyone any experience of it?

Yep, I was prescribed it to help me sleep. It worked for me for awhile and then I gave up on it because it stopped working; however, I have a friend who swears by it and has been on it for years. Everyone's physiology is different - what works for some may do nothing for others. I did not have any adverse effects from it.

Thanks for the response. Did you find it caused weight gain as that is something that terrifies me as I have an eating disorder.

I was not on it long enough to tell if I would have gained weight and I have another condition where I lose weight no matter what I eat/take.

I was on a dose of about 50-100 mg at night if I recall correctly (for sleep), and It stopped working for me after about 2-3 nights.

I have to add that for some reason I become tolerant to most meds very quickly - probably my metabolism. So please understand that this is just my experience. It will not be the same for everyone.

One option might be to try it and watch for weight gain (not daily - as weight can vary by fluid intake, but maybe weigh yourself every 2 weeks) and then talk to the doc that prescribed it if you notice something.

Good advice! Thanks for taking the time to explain your experience.

I've been taking trazadone for years for sleep. It works great and does not cause weight gain. It takes about a half hour to kick in and then zonk.

It did nothing for me. Nothing I've tried has been able to put me to sleep, only exhaustion.

I was prescribed trazodone to help me sleep! Unfortunately I was only able to take it for about a week before I had to stop due to my liver failing (for completely unrelated reasons, the trazodone didn't cause my liver disease, lol). But for the week I took it, it was great! Don't be afraid to try something new if it has a chance of helping you. I also have friends who have taken it and they haven't noticed any adverse affects like weight gain or anything. :)

For me worked well to sleep for a couple of weeks and then wear off. But that's just my opinion don't take it as a norm as my brain refuses all medications.

I've been on it for years. I go back and fourth between 150-300 mg a night. Works good! No side effects

Maybe I'm the exception. I'm happy it worked for both of you.

Trazadone worked pretty well with helping me sleep. I don't take them anymore, though.

I took trazadone in the past and now mirtazapine, for sleep.
For those who take trazadone or mirtazapine for sleep: Do you take it on an empty stomach ? Does it make you hungry ?
'Cos on an empty stomach I'm fully awake and I'm also hungry.
But when I take them with food (preferable high carbs/fat) they make me more sleepy, sometimes it's even like I was hit by a hammer.
Anyone else experienced this ?

I take it. 100-150mg at bedtime. Been taking it for over a year and it works great to help me sleep. No weight gain from it, but it does make me a bit sleepy for a while the next morning.

No, trazadone doesn't make you hungry. Seroquel WILL though

I took the maximum dose for about three years. I no longer use it. It never really worked for me.

Tried it for sleep, but did not perceive much effectiveness. Was switched to Restoril, which was slightly less ineffective. I find that melatonin with vitamin B6 works best for sleep out of those three.

I had a strange, and frightening experience with trazadone. I was using a low dose for sleep, which it did help. But after using it for a few days I started getting very intense music in my head that wouldn't stop. I thought I was going into psychosis or something. It went away when i stopped the drug though. It also bothered my stomach a bit.

I did not like it. I was prescribed 2x 150 mg to get over an Ambien dependence/addiction. Even with alcohol, I did not find it very effective, and it made my heart flutter. One time, I overdid it and almost died.

I strongly prefer Quetiapine/Seroquel even though it has many, many drawbacks and is a bitch to get prescribed w/o a Bipolar or Schizophrenia diagnosis.

As I have read it is also used to remove alcoholism. That says on Wikipedia: Indications. Trazodone is indicated for the treatment of clinical depression with or without anxiety. It is also used, sometimes, to treat schizophrenia, [3] [4] excessive worry and alcohol abuse [5] [6] [7] as well as to control abnormal and uncontrollable movements that can experienced as side effects of other medications.
