And how? This is a question I think about often, because I feel morally obliged to be alive as it stands right now. What are the mental consequences like on average? If there already is a thread like this, feel free to delete this.

It varies. Each family is different, and each individual is different when it comes to coping with death. Some move on, others harbor it for the rest of their lives, and few follow in the same footsteps of the suicidal.
