Time for some video game appreciation... Ok- a few spoilers ahead- I'll warn in good time though:

Happiest moments:

When I hatched two Brachiosaurus in: Jurassic Park Operation Genesis (I think) on XBox.

Spoiler alert! When the broom alien came alive in: Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders on an old Atari PC.

When you built something your citizens liked in a city builder game and lots of smiley faces swept over the neighbourhood. On PC

Most moving moments:

Big spoiler alert: When the huge Sea Emperor Leviathan mother died at the end of Subnautica. On XBox One.

Lots of beautiful moments, dialogue and music in the game: Spiritfarer. XBox One (highly recommend) I've never cried so much in response to a game.

Suicide related moments:

Spoiler alert! In the game: 'What remains of Edith Finch' where Lewis Finch realises that the only way to live his dream life is to end his real one at the fish processing plant. I loved how that was done too. (Also highly recommend this game...) XBox One.

How about you? What are your most memorable/ happiest gaming moments? Of course- just getting to the end of some of the earlier games felt like an achievement- back in the days when you couldn't save your progress!

Our Life: Beginnings & Always made me cry like a little bitch quite a few times. Happy tears, though. It's the most wholesome, affirming game I've ever come across and definitely recommend it.

I really like visually stimulating games even if it's basically just a "walking simulator" they really make me think of something other than whatever is going on in my real life so I was very occupied with those a couple months ago

and some old RPG (and new) maker games like The Strange Man Series, The Witch's House, and Mad Father, Yume Nikki, Space Funeral, Middens

I played a lot of PS1 and PS2 games as well along with PSP ones

the happiest moments for me were playing Little Big Planet and Phantasy Star Portable and Secret Agent Clank again it really took me back to the times I spent over my grandma's house on summer break with bad Wi-Fi

my favourites out of all of the PS1 and PS2 games that I played were LSD Dream Emulator, Slap Happy Rhythm Busters, Dance Dance Revolution Kona Mix, Kula World, and Thrill Kill
it was really satisfying to beat this guy

also I played a few GameCube games after I fixed it which was extremely satisfying and now I have a new skill/hobby I played Cel Damage, Spyro: Enter The Dragon, and The Sims 2

Cel Damage was my favourite out of those I recommend it to everyone

edit: Also played some really old stuff like Golden Axe, Comix Zone, and Streets of Rage 2 and a few PC games and flash games Psychonauts, Halo, Papa's Scooperia

any time theres a little creature in a game it just fills me with childish joy, like tadpoles, frogs, and any baby animal in minecraft, all the animals in stardew valley especially the frogs, every animal in viva piñata even the sour ones, theres loads but i cant think of them rn.
beating barnyard on pc as a kid.
playing the viva piñata demo on my brothers xbox over and over as a kid, and then my brother getting me the full game for my birthday a few years ago.
playing minecraft since 1.8 as a kid and seeing all the updates over the years, never fails to fascinate me and i always get that nostalgic feeling when i play it.
stardew valley, just the whole game if you just play it casually and not worry about minmaxing all your crops, its so relaxing and heart warming, especially the cut scenes with each character.
listening to music and playing viscera clean up detail, ive spent many hours imagining im a janitor on an alien spaceship cleaning up blood and bodies just chilling, its so relaxing
im sure theres more that im forgetting

I loved Golden Axe too. Psychonauts was a great game. Haven't they re-released that on the new consoles? I think there's even a Psychonaughts 2. I bought the Disney original releases of: Aladdin, The Lion King and The Jungle book for a bit of nostalgia the other day. Aladdin felt so ahead of its time on the MegaDrive. The graphics were so good- for the time. I think nostalgia is definitely a big part of it. There used to be an indoor market I used to go to to buy second hand games. I used to be so excited on the bus home, reading the instructions. Yeah- I know what you mean. I love how immersive games are.

I really, really, have a deep love for Night In The Woods. I plan on replaying it again soon, because I feel like what Mae is going through, but in a different way. Wanting to go back to childhood, but in my case - wanting a childhood in general, getting to enjoy doing teenage things when I didn't get to. Not being able to enjoy my 20s, having mental illness & severe depression, anxiety, insomnia & night terrors. I relate to the different characters in different ways a lot. It's a depression-comfort game for me.

Skyrim is my favorite game, I have poured thousands of hours into it, without mods (I have only had access to console versions). It helps me escape from life, it's fun, & I like that even to this day, I find new things. I love it.

What Remains of Edith Finch is a rollercoaster honestly, the last scene, I also relate to. The way it depicts drifting into your daydreaming whilst doing mundane things like working, I do a lot personally. It really shows to myself how much I have drifted into my own daydreaming before, & the outcome for the character - may be my own outcome one day.

Yeah- I loved that in that Edith Finch game the way the different parts of the controller controlled his daydream and menial job and it became harder and harder to juggle both. I agree- it does feel like that in real life. You almost CAN'T be entirely present in real life when you're in some building without any windows dealing with shitty people. You'd go completely mad...

I played Psychonauts 2 and it was really good. I never played the first one though so I don't know how to compare them but I was surprised at how enjoyable it was.

---

I can't pin point a specific happy moment, there's so many I've enjoyed in a lot of games. But if we are talking about the happiest moment of my life in a video game, I have to mention Ocarina of Time. I have played that game since I was seven years old, and have played it so much since. It was what made me be interested in video games. I remember the moment of defeating Ghoma and leaving the Kokiri Forest for the first time, and realizing you have a whole world ahead of you to explore in Hyrule Field, running with that epic music in the background. Pulling out the master sword and transforming into an adult and seeing how the world changes. And of course, the Sheik reveal which I won't spoil but that was really good.

For me, it's more so how much I drift off like him. When I used to cashier - it was pretty bad. I would completely go into zombie mode, in my own world, a lot. I wouldn't take breaks working, I would just be a robot & continue just so that I don't break my stream of my imagination.

I feel I will end up similarly to his own end, becoming so enthroned & consumed by my own imagination, I'm not able to handle real life anymore.

Aladdin and Pocahontas made me rage quit so many times ;-; but I think maybe I should give Pocahontas another try since it's more of a puzzle game

I think they have rereleased Psychonauts and there's a few more games in the franchise like the rhombus of ruin but I think that's for VR I don't like how the new ones look

whenever I am at my lowest I tend to go back to nostalgic pieces of media it helps a lot

I haven't bought second hand games for old consoles in a looong time I used to go to an old comic/vinyl/game shop to get mine once it started to get harder to find games for old consoles at places like GameStop I think the last old second hand game I bought was Dragon's Lair

also I'm happy to know that there are fans of Golden Axe here I like the second one I haven't played the others though also I heard Altered Beast is good/similar have you played that one ?

I've definitely heard of Altered Beast. I don't think I played it though. I think it was probably Golden Axe 2 I played too. The skeletons used to frighten me- the way they popped up out of the ground! The music was so cool. Really 80's. Who did you play as? I think I played mostly as the dwarf to begin with and later on, the guy in the blue pants.

Playing 'The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past' on the snes when I was young. I was so young that at first I couldn't get far into the game at all. Also because I probably didn't understand English that much. So I remember saving the princess and bringing her to sanctuary most clearly. It was magical! The music, the visuals. I love that game. (Finished it when I got older, and was better at solving the puzzles)

I always played as the lady

I was terrified of the really tall guy I forgot the name of the character but it wasn't Death Adder its the boss after you get through the village where there's skeletons and ladies on those weird creatures

did you ever find those small elves with sacks to be annoying because I definitely did

which is starting to make me think that I accidentally mistaked Golden Axe as Golden Axe 2 both look really good though so I can see why I have them mixed up

Yeah- those little creatures with sacks annoyed me too. Didn't they steal your gems and you had to chase them to get them back? I should play it again really- I do have it on XBox One- you know how they release those multi-game discs? Amazing how far computer games have come. Still- there's still something special about the golden oldies. I loved the music though. It used to make me feel like a hero! Lol.

I don't remember them stealing anything, just being very difficult to chase

I always play old games like that using an emulator for whatever system they were available on

yeah I have some multi game discs for Sonic Heroes makes me feel a bit old

computer games have definitely come a long way both positively and negatively (in my opinion mostly negatively for many reasons I could make an entire thread or post about it) honestly I don't even remember why some games had multiple discs in the first place oddly enough that makes me want to play GTA Vice City

good times :)

There are too many moments I could mention, but if I had to choose...

I platinum Bloodborne about a year ago and there was a moment that left me stunned, because it was as if suddenly all those disconnected ends suddenly made sense. I was in the upper cathedral ward, where there are pretty weird enemies, guys who look like plague inspectors, others who seem to be dressed as patients, werewolves and a bunch of worms (which we later discovered are babies of great ones and human women). Shortly after I defeated the Celestial Emissaries (a really weird bunch of enemies) a route opens up, I thought it would be a shortcut or a lamp and that's the all of this area, but no, the path was longer, and suddenly I look down and think "Hey... That is the place where I fought the deer lady", I see that there is an elevator that takes time to go down, I continue forward and I find a... Meat tree? which I knew was a boss when the life bar that said "Ebrietas, the daughter of the cosmos" appear... I literally said out loud "AH! they got the blood from here... UGGGGGH", those from the church definitely lost their disgust if they milked Ebrietas, how did they do it? I don't want to know.

Tumblr owwjhxLPlC1vzel59o2 r1 540 Tumblr p1carkLF0Y1vzel59o3 540

Throughout the game we learn about a panacea that was produced in Yharnam, a blood-based medicine that cured any disease, but in turn eventually spread the plague of the beast that turned a large part of the population into feral and deformed creatures. There was no passage that mentioned any refining method for blood to gain these properties and at that time we knew next to nothing about the Great Ones, the beings worshiped in Yharnam, let alone why the Healing Church would take such measures like burning down the old town district and setting up curfews along with an institution like the Hunters... Until we understand that they caused everything, simply by playing with something they did not understand.

It's a satisfying moment if you try to put the story together, if it's not it's just "oh another boss, I'll kill her, turn on the lamp and leave", but otherwise it's when everything makes sense!

I was going to mention other moments but I realize that I wrote too much haha, but this one fits well, it's a very specific and distinctive moment.

When I played Left 4 Dead 2 one day with my then best friend. We were just spamming voice commands and killing the bots for fun. I remember he made a joke about something and it was so funny I seriously could not stop laughing for 30 minutes straight. Probably the hardest I have and will ever laugh at anything.

Another thing we would do is play C&C red alert against each other (the online mod) and every single time it would end in both of us having an absolute wall of defending artillery around our bases, way too much for anybody to be able to invade the other's base. At that point we would just joke around and trash talk each other for hours straight until our parents would tell us to go offline.

We had so much fun. I could probably list 1000 more memorable moments I had while gaming with him. I really miss him
