After around 10 collective hours of struggling to make myself pass out, I finally managed to achieve it today, but the landing was not pretty.

What's interesting is that I managed to do it when I had the knot placed in front of my neck, just below the Adam's apple. Because the pressure on the trachea was much lower with the knot there, I was able to comfortably put my entire weight on the rope, and when I did that, I lost consciousness so quickly that I didn't even have time to realize it, about 3–4 seconds.

Afterwards, I woke up on the floor hearing blood continuously drip on the wood, I didn't even know at that moment where the blood was coming from since it didn't hurt — that was a little bit scary. I must've hit my head on the square edge of a table that was near me when I went down, leaving a more than superficial cut that's around 3 cm in length on my forehead near the eyebrow. The wound took 4+ hours to completely stop bleeding, and at the beginning it bled so fast, faster than anything I ever experienced before — the image below shows what around 10 seconds of bleeding looked like at the spot where I woke up, just before I rushed out.

So, if you wanna practice making yourself pass out with the rope, make sure the area around you is safe to land on, so you don't end up with a nasty cut that'll take weeks if not months to heal.

Ouch. Thanks for the report and the descriptive picture. If you ever want to write a book, this would make a great cover pic ;) Seriously though, I wish you a speedy recovery.

This could have been me. Luckily I did slide down a wall next to me and not hit any sharp objects. But I also tried for a while while sitting safely on the bed and pulling the rope behind my neck first, and it didn't do much, aside from sight growing dim.

But as soon as I tried it standing with the rope thrown over a pull-up bar (not fixed but holding and pulling the other end with my hand) and leaning into it with the force of some frustration at that point, I passed out real quick. I remember thinking something like "oh, this is intense, I should better let go of th..." and that was it and I was on the floor waking up to some nice ice cream truck music (not in a creepy horror movie way, it was rather nice). I haven't gone that far since, out of fear of a hard landing. But it gave me a lot of confidence in this method.

I did go with the rather classic knot position on the back of the neck. First, I used a washcloth as padding in the front, to avoid the discomfort you described. On my last training session I took some Ibuprofen 1 hour before and that also worked well for me. (Actually, it was followed by a slightly unpleasant night with headaches and sleeplessness. Not sure if that was due to cutting off the blood supply to the brain a couple of times, or if 600 mg Ibuprofen was a bit much for me, not being used to any drugs or medication. I'd go with 400 mg the next time, just for the record.)

I hope you also get some sense of reassurance and 'satisfaction' out of your experiment and that your wound is healing well.

Why was the attempt unsuccessful?
It wasn't an attempt, I was testing by holding the rope over the anchor with my hands.

Yeah, I've also tried with the knot on the back but it wasn't successful for me. For some reason, the only times I can get the carotids compressed is when I extend my neck by looking upwards, which comes naturally when I have the knot at the front. Even if I manually extended my neck with the knot at the back, I would often back out because it felt uncomfortable; I would feel a combination of breathlessness, nausea, stomach ache, dizziness, and at best, I reached the point where my vision darkened before backing out 7-8 seconds in. But with the knot at the front, I didn't experience any of those symptoms and went directly to unconsciousness with no time to back out, which looks like a much better option to me, when the time will come for the real deal, the SI will also be there to make you even more likely to back out.

It did bring me some reassurance knowing that I now know how to pull it off, but I sure as hell won't be doing any practice anymore. The next time I'll hang it will be with the rope tied to the anchor.
