Venting This pro-988 world makes me feel suicidal

Just got banned from the r/suicide watch subreddit but how can I be surprised when people who volunteer for 988 run it, there are entire pro 988 posts listed on the subreddits sidebar and about pages, and 988 is plastered all over Reddit?

It's everywhere. In the hospital it was all they had. I actually told the hospital therapist about non police calling hotline alternatives and she actually agreed they should be the gold standard, not 988. However she has to hand out the 988 number because it's her job.

Reddit has banned suicidal subreddits before for "promoting violence" yet they advertise 988 everywhere, which is in cahoots with the police. The police are an inherently violent and oppressive institution. Reddit is hypocritical and only cares about media watchdogs not trying to shut them down like they've tried to do with SaSu.

No one cares about why people are suicidal. Just their own egos. They find genuinely suicidal people scary, uncomfortable, and sad, so instead of understanding, they force you not to. They then expect you to never talk about it again and for you to be cured, or they will just leave you or incarcerate you yet again.

I'm so fucking lonely I just wanna buy another ligature fuck. But I can't will myself to (nor do I want anyone to fyi).

I am disconnected as fuck but what makes 988 worse than the rest of them, cause idt there is a hotline that won't snitch you rn and rn is system is just lock everyone up. But yes I do agree with you everything about this sucks it's really discouraging to peoppe reaching for help because they risk a permanent medical record that may affect them and involuntary hospilization that they might have to pay for.

This isn't true. The wildflower alliance, trans lifeline, and thrive textline are non police calling hotline alternatives available in the us. You can read their policies if you don't believe me.

They aren't widely known because pro-lifers don't want to actually help, just feed their egos because you make them uncomfortable. You are sad danger to society who deserves police violence because it's "necessary" to save your life at whatever cost according to them.

I agree with everything up to the closing sentence.

If we lived in a world where suicide prevention specialists actually cared about understanding why people are suicidal, eliminating suffering, creating policies that help prevent risk factors (like poverty, unemployment, chronic disease prevention, homelessness, discrimination, and bigotry), didn't treat the suicidal like criminals, and were actual pro-choice instead of pro-life, suicide prevention would be a net positive. Unfortunately we do not live in my fantasy land.

Sorry to double post. I had posted my reply to dear @FuneralCry after you had already posted.

I've had no luck getting a hold of the wildflower alliance. Honestly I don't think I'd have the will to stay on the line anyway. It's too terrifying. Though it says right on their website they do not call the cops, screen calls, track data, or do an assessment. The organization is lovely and they offer a few respite homes as an alternative to institutions that do not involve the police. These are rare in the us.

I'm a member of their discord tho. It's all peer support led and everyone who posts struggles with suicidal ideation so it's a refuge and a safe space with no police or taking people out of it fears. Methods are not discussed however, but if you just wanna talk to someone who understands it's nice and they don't give canned crap there or judge you at all.

I have reached out to the thrive text line. I was asked if I was suicidal. When
I said yes, I received no evaluation and was given resources instead. They are also peer support. Keep in mind they do track data for informational/peer support purposes but they're more transparent than 988 so I trust them.

If anyone here desires a hotline, try to find a peer support led one as this means the volunteers are required to have lived in experiences. Do read the policies as some of these warm lines/hotlines call the cops, but not all do. They are pro recovery tho so keep that in mind if that's not what you're looking for.

I was sharing this info to r/suicidewatch but I got banned for offering to pm lol. I've shared it on fb and told my therapist and some personal friends. I may make a Reddit throwaway using a vpn so I can still post and share that info.

It's a shame peer support led, mutual aid sources aren't as well known. I suppose that's because there's more money in police and hospitals. Gotta love capitalism.

When I felt depressed and suicidal because of that. I would never call them. How would that make me feel better, when I talk with random people who don't know how I feel or don't understand me at all. And what would they do to me. I am afraid they would put me in confinement without having done anything or without having any intention of doing something against anyone or the law.

Peer support hotlines are better in my experience, because volunteers are qualified to have lived-in experience
