As long as they don't use our stories and what we post here and then distort the truth to fit their narrative to get more views with a click baity title like NYT article.

That's a very creepy thought. So many people in here feel safe discussing things that they cannot let others know and the idea of someone most likely using those stories in a sensationalist context is utterly repulsive, vile and exploitative. To even suggest such a thing shows us how utterly revolting and callous human beings have become in their quest for fame, power and money. There is nothing sacred, private or empathic about this idea. Just a heinous invasion of people's most painful moments splashed across a screen for ratings. Disgusting....

This is one thing I despise about modern society. Privacy is dead. So many things get blown up on social media or the internet without concern for how those actually involved feel about the matter. It's not new, really. Reporters and paparazzi and such have done similar things but I have never seen so many "average" people receive such scrutiny for random and ultimately inconsequential things as now.

It's as if society now thinks it has a "right to know" what goes on in the lives of everyday people in the same way they ought to know about the latest global tragedy.

Gawking at people like zoo animals and pointing and laughing is a common pasttime now.

People will take anything that looks "weird and wacky" to outsiders to lambast it for a quirky self serving minute of fame. Going "viral" is really just like it's namesake, a virus.

I've started to have a similar feeling about things like true crimes shows. Those people didn't consent to having every aspect of their life exposed to a massive audience simply because they got murdered.

I guess TV really started this trend and with the internet, things got even worse as they always do.

There have been various media made about another suicide focused group, alt suicide holiday, which became famous. I think it may be a matter of time before this happens for SS. I hope I'm gone by then.

I'm actually a bit surprised a youtuber hasn't tried to make content out of the stories of people here yet seeing as no subreddit is safe from them.
Personally I would hate it. I doubt any user wants any level of temporary fame from something like that, we're all just kind of vibing together.

there are many bad things in the internet such as child porn, gore, identity thefy, cyber attacks, ....etc. aren't these issues more important than a small community of suicidals? suicide rates are very low

I really believe way more stories will come. Journalists always read what other journalists write. In my country I think they see the NYT as a role model or sometihng.
The only reason why they might won't do it is the Streisand effect.
I already imagine which media will cover it in my country. I often read newpapers and observe the media. Media love those stories. There is the evil (us) and there are the victims.
I am just wondering which magazine it will finally be.

why?
This place having attention doesnt do anything but make it more likely to be shut-down, I rather this place be very unpopular rather than popular for many reasons I won't label because NYTime 'spies' might read it (Another con to popularity, 'spies' wanting to shut this place down and remove vendors)

You know. It's already a very "famous" forum. "Fame" isn't always a "good" thing.

Unfortunate in general that this place even exists.

Bad ideas fed by bad ideas.

I don't think the evil is necessarily the lingering members of the forum, it's the evil in life that has put all of us into a category of "umm."

"Victims?"

Yes. They are victims.

They are victims of themselves, something around them, something within them, something external. And then they die or depart life, however we see that, they shut their body off.

Some of us are "survivors" and we try to shift from victim to survivor and become victimizer or victimized. Or we just cannot seem to get out of the bad situations that put us all here and we all say.

Fuck. Why?!

People are always fishing for answers when there are none.

I hope no one ever does that given the personal stories posted here. You'd have to be a real asshole to use others pain for youtube content. Of all the shitty things going on in the world to cover why would you want to direct attention to ppl who are basically at their breaking point and who already feel judged by society.

like @stellabelle says, it's already a famous website. I mean, relatively speaking.

It's a very small community and for journalists to go as far as stalking the creators...

I don't really see critikal covering this unless another Youtuber ends up being a member from here and killing themselves maybe. Even then, it's not really what he's usually make a video about.

I've always wondered if Wisecrack would have anything to say about this site, or at least its philosophy. They've already covered antinatalism several times so it would be neat to see some possible philosophical discussion about the nature of being Prochoice when it comes to living.

I'd rather it not. The NYT article was plenty bad enough as it villainized this very community. This is only place that I feel safe talking about what goes through my mind. If this site gains any more attention, it would just lead to a bunch of normies thinking this is a suicide cult and try to get it shut down. I don't have much faith that most people outside of the general pro-choice community would give an accurate account.

I don't think it's "small", when it is in fact comparable to the size of a town or village. There are more people here than there are in some places. Now imagine an entire city of people who "exit." It might be a drop in the bucket on a large scale of world population, but I mean… yikes.

And as far as investigative journalism goes… the extent… you'd be amazed!

Anyway… like I said about liabilities, is Zuckerberg responsible when someone livestreams a murder?

And the other reasons people do fucked up shit…. Blaming the suicidal instead of the people who drove them to that point?

Roommates, parents, peers, employers? Fuckfaces, stalkers, rapists, thieves, shit disturbers in general?

People who don't LISTEN or FOLLOW INSTRUCTION, being VERBAL AND WRITTEN…. JESUS F CHRIST… GOD… WHY… INJUSTICE IN GENERAL.

oh, I didn't realise there were almost 22k users. I always look at the number of guest online and it's often a low number so I felt like it was a small community

As we all know - in our world nothing is off limit when it comes to scoring popularity, fame, money, influence, and alike.

No human misery is spared or respected. On the contrary - the more miserable, 'odd', 'strange' - the better. It might keep someone's finger from flicking to another, more entertaining content for a bit longer. Someone scrolling leisurely from one slaughter to another. Clicking 'share', 'like', etc. Feeding the insatiable 'feedback loop' and making countless profit for the corporations running the sharing platforms in the process. Such as the world humans build.

Against this background - it is not hard to imagine that this site might be considered for the same purposes. But (and it is a BIG but in my view) - this site has a 'middle finger' like no other. Most residents are more than willing to tell the 'wonderful world' where to go and, often, exactly how to get there, AND suicide scares the 'wonderful world' like nothing else ... except maybe sheer madness. Which we also do not lack. Amen.

I don't know if society will turn to chaos because I've lost all hope of justice.
But if these people live a life with all the illness ramping up in the mass eugenics programs hopefully they will die alone and be abandoned by whom they thought were loved ones and then think "you know what, I shouldn't have been so evil to those people suffering on that website".
