Im thinking of seeing a medium for a crossover for my moms spirit.

Im grieving her too much lately and maybe id find closure.

This lady has alot of positive reviews on google and news articles people say she identified things with peoples families she couldnt have known, Like their deceased son was a dedicated soccer player, one other case the psychic knew what special nickname her husband called her and one person said how she identified a tattoo on her hip that know one knew about.

But i am rather skeptical. Im actually atheist. So i dont know what to believe.
It seems fake and i read that the mediums ask open ended questions and you give them the information unknowingly.

Using cold and hot reading,

i think il just go to judge for myself.

im sure they do use some elaborate psychological tricks.

Its so wrong and evil to take advantage of a grieving persons desperations.

sure it brings comfort to people but why not be a counsellor or social worker.

it's all a scam / for entertainment purposes only, why would you pay for this? especially when you know that therapy is more likely to be effective at helping you process how you feel

You make the questions, you make the answers. I highly believe that all "medium, psychics, etc" are a scam. Especially those telling you that yes they will talk with one of your dead relatives. Maybe it will help for the grieving process, but like western_heart said, therapy is 200% better. I wouldn't give my money to those people.

This is something I've thought of, to communicate with my girlfriend and soulmate who left me forever. After careful consideration, I decided against it.

There may be genuine mediums in the world who can communicate with the dead, and I don't deny this. But they are too few and far between, and tend not to practise it as a profession or advertise their services.

The vast majority of such professional practitioners are charlatans who want to make a quick buck by preying upon depressed and grieving people. When we are depressed due to grief over the loss of a loved one, we make ourselves vulnerable, and there are people who want to take advantage of our vulnerability and make money out of it. It's completely unethical, but it's not illegal at all, and so they continue to do it. It's up to us to not become their prey.

I was listening to a podcast about this and heard something interesting. Two skeptics went to a psychic and one got a reading while the other observed and took notes. The one getting the reading got a little swept up in it and afterwards felt like the psychic got some amazing hits, like knowing the name of his dead grandmother. The one who had been taking notes said that no, the psychic actually guessed several names before getting the right one. Apparently the psychology of being swept up in the reading actually altered the one getting the reading's memory so that he only recalled the psychic nailing the name...he did not remember her offering the wrong names first.

I never heard of any psychic who talked to the dead. I do know people who claimed to have a specific part of their future predicted by one

I'm skeptical, I don't believe in that and I agree with @LivideLamb and @western_heart said.

Possibly of interest: the never-claimed million dollar prize for any such supernatural performance that could be credibly verified. The challenge ran off and on for over 50 years and not one person was able to claim the money.

Do not give your money to these liars, they are just trying to dupe you so that you pay them. Mediums can seem genuine to some people because they appear to know personal things about people they've just met but they use techniques to do this, not through mind reading or speaking to the dead. The things they "know" about people are quite easily guessed, so them "knowing" that someone's son was a football player: lots of boys and men are into football, "knowing" the nickname that someone calls their partner: was probably baby or something else easily guessed and finally "knowing" what tattoo a woman had: it was probably of a rose or another common tattoo that people get. Also, they are good at interpreting body language and other non verbal cues to gain information from people. If it helps some people to feel better then that's good for that reason but if you want something honest and genuine then steer clear altogether.
