To demand that someone endure against their will whether it's physical, psychological, or existential suffering without any a source of help in a difficult situation to exit is to rob them of autonomy. It isn't compassion; it's cruelty hidden behind sentimentality and social conformity. A just system would acknowledge the right to opt out, not criminalize or stigmatize it.

how could anyone want to live in a place that intends to harm them and expects them to thank it for the opportunity?

This is the logic of abuse, not care. To harm someone and then call it a gift is the same mechanism used by toxic families, manipulative institutions, and cult-like ideologies. It's the normalization of harm. Gratitude should never be demanded in a world that offers so little safety, peace, or choice.

It shouldn't be this way. A world that routinely harms the people within it and expects them to thank it for the opportunity
is not behaving according to what is morally right and fair.

why should anyone be forced to live with a incurable condition that mentally and physically drains you everyday

To be forced to tolerate enduring pain is not a testament to human strength. It is a sign of a system built on neglect, on coercion, and on harmful intentions disguised as behaviour showing high moral standards.

I am living this every day and yes, it is awful to live through. I hope and plan to escape my suffering but having to do so secretly and hide it as if it is a crime is adding to the stress of the ongoing illnesses. Thank you for sharing this. I hope one day the moral reasoning moves forward enough to allow an exit to those in unbearable suffering.

No one can help me. Not me, not so many other people who are slowly wasting away. They are in homes, in hospitals (if they have money), bedridden, anywhere. When the motivations to live that the world offers do not work, they simply ignore anyone's suffering. There is no virtue in that. And they still treat us like criminals.
