Would like to know from you; what do you physically do to make get yourself out of the dark?
PS: this is aimed at people in recovery, who is eager to improve themselves.
In my mind recovery starts with taking care of your physical body. When I feel depressed, severely depressed, or/and in physical pain, i force myself to take a shower, get dressed, and go out of my apartment as quickly as I can. This happens almost every day. Recovery is a lifestyle to me, I will have to do it until the day that I die, since I live with chronic medical conditions.
Remember that depression has physiological responses, therefore we need to physically correct the physiological effects that depression has on the body. If you speak with someone in person, and the person's eyes are droopy, sad voice, shoulders and head hanging, not neatly dressed, would that make you think of someone who is depressed or happy?
We must get out of fetal position ( out of bed), dress well, open eye lids fully, speak up, stand tall with good posture, while breathing deeply. This lets the brain know that you going to do what you going to do, despite your circumstances. It means that you not going to allow your circumstances have control over what you do with your body.
Brain function improves with regular exercise, plus the body and mind connection re-establishes itself in a caring way. Like with most things, you need to be consistent, you must discipline yourself, it is not easy, but you need to do this for your own physical, and mental well-being.
I also recommend that you feel the sun, see the moon and the stars everyday, if possible.
Remember; What you do with your mind has an effect on your body, what you do with your body has an effect on your mind.
Recovering , it is about improving quality of life, full recovery is a plus.
here is a song for you
