the pillow over head thing looks so easy in the movies, why can't we do that to ourselves?

hypothetically, why can't you just tape a pillow to your own head and die that way?
i know it needs to be really tight to prevent breathing.
but... in the movies or series, it looks so easy. i know hollywood is way excagerated, but still.
i bet the difference isn't huge tho. yesterday i saw 2 articles about 2 successfull suicides done only with plastic bags strapped to their own heads.

There are certain people who are in the Hall of Fame category when it comes to catching the bus.

One person took a chainsaw to his his own head as a protest.He was being evicted.

Everyone's seen the calm monk who set himself on fire.

Then there's this lady who held her own breath till she turned blue and died.

Either these people possessed exceptional willpower or their suffering was just great enough for them to turn to something so drastic.Same goes for those cases where they just put a plastic bag on their heads. Requires real determination.

First, remember movies are not real life. Lots of things look easy in movies that are highly impractable or even impossible to do in real life

You need to breathe and your body will do everything in its power to make you breathe. Simply taping a pillow over your mouth so that you cannot inhale or exhale is not going to do it. Your body will fight you tooth and nail to get you to rip the pillow off to get air. Most suicides with some sort of suffocation involve some sort of sedatives so that the person is either unconscious or at least very calm or a method where the person cannot back out once started, such as full suspension hanging. You have to be in a very, very small elite group of humans to calmly and willingly face your death with a method that you could easily abort.
