I am 26 male and I am planning on ctb in a few months , sometime in February 2019, because I have no financial future or social (no gf) future because of my social anxiety.
The only thing that pinches my heart a little is that I won't get to see or experience the technological advancements of the coming decades - the 2020's, 2030's, 2040's, 2050's and so on.
I mean imagine a dude my age , 26 , who ctb in say 1990 , he didn't get to see or experience the internet or smartphones and so on.

But to be honest, if I'll continue living what awaits me is a life of poverty so I won't be able to afford any of the new and cool technologies that will be developed.
So in a sense it will be worst.
Because I will know about all these cool technologies but won't be able to buy and use them.
I'll be like a guy who sees a very cute women on the street and he knows he can't be with her ( happens to me all the time).
And seeing how the world is becoming shittier and shittier and more violent by the day , yes I won't get to see those technological advancements but I won't experience any disasters or horrible things that might happen.
Take the same guy who ctb in 1990, yeah he didn't get to see the iphone or the internet but he also didn't hear about the horrors of 9/11 or isis or mass shootings and all that.
And seeing humanity right now I feel like there are going to be many more disasters and horrors in the following decades.
And are these cool gadgets and products make us any happier?
It seems the internet and smartphones only made us more depressed and socially isolated.
You walk outside today and nobody is talking or looking at eachother , everyone are glued to the smartphone like a zombie.

So, all in all, I am determined to ctb, and while I might miss some stuff, I am content with that decison and believe it will allow me to end my mental suffering.

Interesting thread, I always wanted to see aliens or at least the acknowledge of them.
One of the more srupid little things I'll miss is the end of Z nation season 5. There's a lot more I'll miss of course, but I love that show. Gutted i won't be able to finish it!

There are a lot of movies and video games coming out next year that I would love to watch and play, but as I'm pretty adamant that I will CTB this year, I will have to miss out on them. It's sad because my sister and I have made it a ritual to watch and play these movies and games together. I know it will break her heart when I CTB and not have me to go to the movies or play the new Super Smash Bros.

This is a weird logic, given that at some point, whether you ctb or not, you will die and therefore miss out on "the future" at some stage. Besides which, even when we've colonised Mars and are travelling to work on some Elon Musk jetpack, people will still be committing suicide.

I do love the idea that there's somebody, somewhere, who is thinking "I'm glad l didn't ctb in 1990, had l done so I'd never have experienced the joy of playing Angry Birds on a Portable Telephone Device" though.

If Elon musk ever makes it to world domination level ill hope to ctb long before that day.. the guy is a supervillain.

Ill miss the little things.. the deepness of the blue sky on a cool summers day... the way the leaves are blown and run slowly down the street. The sound and sight of small waves lapping at the rock. The sound of the city around me.. the smile on the strangers face as you walk past them. The smell of a freshly brewed coffee.. the voices of friends and their laughs.

But then these are the things i like about life. The big picture has never mattered to me. Its the small insignificant things, the memories of things that most people dont even take the time to notice...

Thats what ill miss, but ill remember them till the last second and smile. Cant ask for more than that.

You're reading my mind. One of the reasons for me to ctb is that modern society with their cyber life. I feel absolutely the same when I look at any kind of woman. It does not matter does she poor or rich or anything else. I know my current life status is much worse and I can't be with her. It is just impossible. I can't meet new friends as well. Everyone is concentrated on their career or families. You know that feeling ? It's like being in the centre of the crowd and yet feeling lonely like there is no one else here.

That's true that there is a part of me that will miss the things to come. Then again, continuing to live life is like a gamble, similar to what you've said. It is possible things can get better, but only temporarily and will likely get worse again, ad infinitum until death. Personally, I don't like to gamble on things and I've already made up my mind long ago, that I will die so it is just a matter of when and where depending on circumstances at said given time. I do get sad about missing out future pleasures, but the disasters and sufferings still outweigh the pleasures that I gained (or yet to gain).

Cant think of one thing ill miss. Think about it how long youve been alive already, how much youve seen, new tech, new movies, new days and nights and look where we are now, whos to say that we stick around for these 'things we will miss' its not a certain it wont change from the situation your in now, it hasnt so far has it.

Sorry to put such a downer on the post but i just dont see the logic of ill miss.........

I second the whole, missing new technology. It took me a while to get into the technology that's ever growing, and I love it. I'm already jealous of the people in the future who's experiencing new technology we have yet to discover. I know, I'm a loser lmao

But on a more serious note, the one thing I know I'll miss and regret because of ctb is never having the chance to mend or get closure on relationships with people I've had with over the years. Part of me wants to close ties with just a few people on the top of my list and the other part of me is saying fuck that and them.

You're actually going to miss a lot of horrors.

Those of us who survive are going to watch how Western Corpocracy, crony capitalism, and keynesian economics abuse consumerism, technology, and the materialistic needs of the masses to further commodify every minute detail and aspect of our lives.

There's going to be micro transactions for everything, and with automation, wage slavery will further become the norm.

Shit is going to go down in the world in the next 2 decades.

In the future, Elon Musk creates an AI to power his Hyperloop called HypeNet. HypeNet gains sentience and controls all trains within the Hyperloop by itself. HypeNet then gains access to nuclear codes and attacks other countries while playing Musk's favorite song, Space Oddity by David Bowie. Billions die and Elon Musk is declared world leader, but in actuality, the Elon that we know is long dead, killed by his sex robot who then assembles a puppet Musk to rule the world. Therefore you ain't missing much :D

That actually sounds great tbh, can't wait for this John Travolta / Ethan Hawke straight-to-DVD smash to emerge.
