Which came first?

The chicken evolved from red junglefowl which evolved from a species of dinosaur called theropods which must have evolved from something else! Presumably all flying and egg laying.

This will offend the religious- so- look away now.

It also occurs to me that this phrase also somewhat describes our questioning about God. If God is the chicken and humankind is the egg, which came first? Who invented who? The religious will say God, God created us. The atheists will argue that humans invented the notion of (or, created) God.

Chickens come from eggs, but eggs come from chickens. So which came first? Most biologists state unequivocally that the egg came first. At their most basic level, eggs are just female sex cells.

Egg came first because the thing that technically laid the first chicken egg was not itself a chicken.

Then again if God or some other form of creationism is real then it's more likely the chicken was created first because otherwise nothing would have been around to raise the first egg.

That makes sense. The mother of the first chicken was still in part, red junglefowl. Glad that one's sorted in my head. Thanks.

I wonder if she was a proud Mum. She'd be horrified if she knew what was going to happen to her future generations.

How shit though. Imagine evolving from a badass dinosaur into that. Imagine each consecutive parents disappointment as they progessively got smaller and weaker. That's throwing up nasty parallels with my childhood.
