Can't claim a flawless victory but I've been making it as hard possible for any kind of agency to get my data.
Definitely seen it coming for a long time but I don't think we're quite at full on 1984 yet. It can always get worse and it clearly is. I think the framework may have been under construction for many years but the thought police haven't quite got their hooks in fully yet and they haven't fleshed over the framework. Unfortunately I feel like most self obsessed, greed driven narcissistic human beings are really feeding this beast in ignorance. One day they'll realise it. A day too late.

My friend, the agencies have everything. That's just the way they do it. They sweep it all up with prisms and mirrors as it travels along the backbone, and they record it. All of it.
Thankfully, in the US we have liberties that protect us a little from some of the most egregious acts of governments the world over, but those protections are dangling by a hair-thin tendril. Regardless, they've been sweeping up everything since the late 90's. They are just waiting for the tendril to snap, when they can then use everything you've ever posted since then against you. There's a war going on in the agencies. Some don't want that tendril to snap.
Up until 2004 most of the infrastructure wasn't yet in place to definitively identify every bit of information exchanged to the individual who posted it on the North American continent, but it's been in place now for quite a long time... and it's much more advanced than what was ever dreamed back in the 90's. Your only hope for conducting anything even remotely "clandestine" in the online space involves encryption (think one-time pads), steganography, online and offline devices and secure transfer between the two, and the type of operational structure portrayed in that all-too-relevent old training movie "The Battle of Algiers"... or the "pyramid" described by Robert Heinlein in some of his stories.
The point is if you're posting online at all, they've already got you. The only question is if, when and how they will use it. There's a war going on in the information space. If we on this platform manage to survive our own hand, let's hope whoever wins that war will allow us some liberty, some dignity, and a society that affords a life that doesn't give so many people cause to want to end it.
