My best friend recently hanged himself in a hotel in the UK, he was 28. He always used to say to me if anything happens to him he would talk to me through any way he could.

Because of this i have been considering going to a Psychic Medium although i am not religious, i don't believe in god, however my personal opinion is death is not the end.

I have been watching many Mediums who claim they can talk to the dead. Some even have there own tv shows.

What is everyones opinions, any past experiences with this?

My opinion is, i'm super sceptical and if this 'medium' 'psychic' 'talk to the dead' is a scam, these people are evil and fraudsters.

My opinion is the same as yours, I'm not convinced that anyone can communicate with the dead, especially because I don't believe that people continue to exist after death in any real way.

I am a very skeptical person, scientific by conviction and education. I usually don't believe these things, but I have one story to tell.

When I was a kid, my parents decided to dug a well to have our own supply of water for the house. We called a company that dug a well on a potential water spring at a depth of 6 meters, per their science and geologic analysis. They found water, but not enough in quantity and we eventually decided not to use that well.

We decided to call a person, upon some recommendations, that was claimed to have a gift to detect water in the underground. I was interested to see how a sole individual would be able to detect water while a company sounded our piece of land and didn't found anything. The man came and was holding some copper tube with a sphere fixed on a wooden stick, and he would just walk in our land. At a moment, he stopped and said that at 52 meters underground, there was an underground water table and that the flow was sufficient for the house.

We called back the digging company and we made a new deal. They dug to 52 meters and guess what, water was found and a literal geyser popped out. We have potable spring water since that date.

This phenomenon remains unexplained but this is a proof that some person have a sixth sense and may be gifted with some capabilities that science cannot explain yet.

I'm highly skeptical of anyone claiming they can speak to the dead for money. I'm not saying it's impossible but highly improbable. Having a tv show is also not relevant. Google "cold reading" to get an idea

I've dabbled in new age things and have decided, as others said, I'm skeptical. If this was truly possible, it would be more visible and accepted in society. I do feel though we are energetic beings so why not try this on your own before spending money? YouTube has many guided meditations to help you connect with your friend. You might try some of these to see if you can communicate. Sounds like you are in the UK but here in San Francisco we have http://www.celebratelifesf.org/ a spiritualist community. They of course have lots of online services now so you might get some help this way. Or they may know of spiritualist communities near you. I'd be more apt to try this than say someone who claims to be a psychic. A spiritualist community may ask for a donation but they will be more interested in you than your money. ❤️

I'm skeptical of mediumship and psychics in general but I think the only one I "trust" is a woman named Erin Pavlina. She has a website and does it full-time which is why her readings are expensive. My aunt got a reading from her and I trust her because she doesn't trust psychics, mediums, and calls new age stuff "hippy dippy druggy shit" but the grief of her son pushed her to give Erin a try. She told me she knew Erin wasn't bullshitting when Erin was like "Okay, I can see an image of you son in my head and proceeds to describe him perfectly to his really unique birthmark but I'm sorry but he isn't showing me his head..." and my aunt explained he was decapitated in a freak car crash and Erin explained a super distinct memory of when he was little. I've read all her articles and a lot of them bring my great comfort and joy and answers to things. Her perspective on the afterlife is interesting, look up her name and afterlife after it. I don't believe it whole-heartedly but I'll find out when I'm dead. She firmly believes in free will and I wanted to debate her on this but I'm not good at debating. I can understand if people think I'm crazy or stupid, so do I.

Have a look at this for an entertaining exposé of how these charlatans operate.

These people have been exposed many times over. There are countless magicians and illusionists who know how to perform tricks that make it seem like they can do super natural things like contact the dead. Look up how often these people are exposed and also look up people showing the techniques that "psychics" use to trick others into thinking they have powers.

I believe in psychic mediums and communicating with the dead, but I do think that there are a lot of frauds out there, so you have to trust your own gut feelings about who to get services from. Always follow your own intuition above all else :) if it feels like something you're drawn to do, and you have a good feeling about the individual medium, it could be worth pursuing

The majority are frauds or misled by themselves or others, but I've personally witnessed some odd cases that give me pause for thought. Sometimes I think perhaps that they're trying to translate something outside the realms of human experience into something we can understand, and as such make many errors. It's like a child's attempt at drawing a complex anatomical diagram for example. We only get a vague impression of what's really going on, and as such it's unreliable, but it's all we have.

I know myself that my understanding of what may be is highly skewed by my personal experiences and perspective. That said, I've been able to decipher the meaning of it because it's presented in symbolism only I will be able to recognise. I've seen things myself, and had things shown to me by others.

My first reaction is to scoff at myself for wishful thinking, and ask myself why, if any of it is true, it has zero observable effect on the physical world around us. At the same time, such thoughts have a real effect on me personally, as much as any other memory or experience. The truth is held within my unobservable consciousness, and perhaps that's the key to making sense of it.

The nihilist in me rejects it all flatly and thus does not experience it. The spiritualist in me allows it to be, and is sometimes shocked by what is revealed by it.

Just tonight I watched someone who is a youtube poster, who has a "voice box" small radio type thing that lets the dead talk to you. He got some voice messages from someone who told him what year he died, his first name, and the name of the bar he got drunk at, then fell and died and said the street he died on which was a couple blocks away from where they were. It was very convincing. This is not someone who fakes anything. The voice was answering questions. It's not what this youtuber usually does but he did it while out in an old part of his city with his friend who is into it.
