Why is it against the law to commit suicide? Im not talking about suicide partners or euthansia (spelling?).

I wouldn't say it's "illegal" in the sense of a crime and getting sent to prison (unless your attempt involved committing crimes or doing something illegal). I would say that even though it isn't "illegal" legally speaking, it is still de facto treated like that.

To answer your question, I would think that as far as society and government is concerned, one less person means one less person working to keep the status quo and/or contribute taxes to the government, the elite, and more. Also, from a societal point of view (while it isn't technically illegal), society likes to make itself look like it's good by preventing suicide, even if it isn't in the best interest of the person.

I'm pretty sure some countries out there actually have it being illegal. And when somebody tried to kill themselves and fails they get sent to prison for breaking the law.
I think I've read something about it but I don't remember which countries made suicide illegal, maybe China or Russia? India? Like I said, I'm not sure, maybe try googling it I'm sure you'll find some information.

i don't think that sucide is exactly against the law or illegal, at least it isn't in most of the world.

besides, what are they going to do, imprison your body? give yout rotting corpse a fine?
you are now free forever and no longer bound by concepts such as legality or punishments.

I read suicide became illegal due to people killing themselves en mass and their governements losing tax money. Also because of religions, which that is basically why suicide became a sin in christianity, because the bible took what was happening socially at the time and just put it in a book to try to control people. So not for any reason that is not selfish or caring.

It remains illegal in several countries, clustered in Africa and Islamic states.

Everywhere else, it's no crime, though incitement, encouragement and assistance of suicide is a different matter.

Even in Canada it was illegal until 1972.

I read somewhere that it's illegal in the US so that police can enter a home if there may be a potential suicide.

its illegal in florida - now i cant purchase a gun - euthanasia should be an option for any adult that desires it - i never knew growing up that the state "owns" my body and i am forced to endure being pathetically miserable - its not right - a civilized society would have some empathy - i'd like to see a political candidate say that an adult has the option to end their own life - that will probably take over a hundred years - suicide was more understood with some sympathy in past societies - now its fashionable to make everyone a prisoner on the planet - even the horrible Nazis gave out cyanide pills - if your no longer enjoying being alive whats the point? - its stupid.

I personally think it stems from religious indocrination and then laws took over. I know you can be sectioned by mental health laws, but dont know if it being illegal in the sense could go to prison for an attempt, it probably could do in some Countries but defo not in UK or anywhere. I should think more in Islamic Countries it would be more likely to be illegal.
Attitudes have and are changing, as years back a suicide couldn't be buried on consecrated ground, but now they can. A young man who took his life, is buried just a few graves along from my beloved parents graves.

The remaining countries which still hold suicide to be a crime are clustered in the Islamic world, as you point out, and also in sub-Saharan Africa.

Burials of suicides in consecrated ground have been allowed in UK since the 1820s, though with restrictions which were successively eased, principally in 1882. However, it is only within the last five years that the use of the full burial service has been officially allowed. In latter years though, many clergy ignored the restrictions.

I base my comments on canon law of the Church of England which is followed, in this respect, by most of the Protestant religious factions. I don't know much about Roman Catholic practices, though they have tended to be more conservative in most things concerning death, cremation being an example.

Some countries it is illegal.
But here in the Netherlands its not even in the law. Its not illegal that way, only thing is mentioned in the law¿ only that people can't hurt or injured other when doing this just as warning.

People can even do it with family sitting next to them. But the family can't advise or direct at the moment of suicides just mental support

If you die from suicide then religion and government will lose control over you.
