Does it ever fade? Mine seems to vary during the day. Screaming right now but not noticable earlier.

I have tinnitus as well. It is not extremely loud, but I have some hyperacusis and it has continued to worsen despite extreme cautiousness. I'm more a case of learned helplessness (trying for the very best but always failing and ending up worse), which is a quick way to consider suicide as the only option.

If you believe you can go for 3-4 years you have a reasonable chance to see a working treatment (there's stuff in the making). I don't really see myself going this far anymore.

Mine is the worst when I'm trying to sleep or if there any loud noises. It also goes hand in hand with my sinusitis as if the mental torture wasn't enough.

You can talk to me too. I have tinnitus which recently started reacting to sound (it plays a sort of beep over certain frequencies ) along with mild visual snow . It was okay until the VS and reactivity started!! X

Yep I have it too, for me it's this super high frequency tone. Can't say which ear it comes from, it's like it's in the middle of my skull. On a good day I barely notice it but bad days with sleep-deprivation and stress, which is basically everyday it's always there.
Headphones and loud music helps.

My H is annoying, but not terrible and might improve in the next weeks-months again, but probably not to a level where it isn't a problem anymore. My H is noise induced and was there before VS. If you got VS first and tinnitus and H later, your reason is probably different than mine. Noise induced H tends to improve over time, but if it stems from the same mechanism as VS I am more sceptical.

How can contact you?
I tried to send you a private message, but it didn't work.

I have it and it's often extremely loud
After getting it was when I began to consider suicide more seriously, but ultimately after doing a lot of research I realise for many people it does get quieter over the years. I have even found people for whom it went away after four years. And even if it doesn't go away there is a big difference between quiet and loud

However unfortunately it was the tinnitus that pushed me to doing something that made me want to kill myself

If I had a guarantee mine stayed at its current level for the next 4 years I wouldnt be here. I would consider myself saved...
Bah, uncertainty sucks balls.

My T was also noise induced. It didn't manifest until a month later tho during a stressful exam period

My VS I think is definitely linked to the noise induced T...It came months later after another stressful period which was followed by H ( I also had H at the beginning of my T but only for a few days then it went away) my normal T has pretty much stayed the same but now reactive T has appeared anD also H I just wanna die . Tbf I was taking benzos for a week before they appeared so could be due to that as I've heard ppl can get H from Benzos :(

Yep it really sucks, especially if music was your life and you know you'll never be able to enjoy it the same way again :(

One of my reasons for ending it is tinnitus too.

Tinnitus is hell on earth.

I lost my career, interests, and pursuits to T. I just want my life back.

How long have you guys had tinnitus?

16 months. Very mild-mild for 10 months. Life was totally normal after getting used to it. VS after 4 months. Permanent worsening after those 10 months. Still mildish when stress was low (took 3-4 months to relax again, life was fine again). Then again a worsening one month ago. Still not terribly loud, but annoying. I can still sleep mostly normal. The question is more now: how long 'til it becomes unbearable?

@Johny89 I'm so sorry about your worsening :( Do you know why it has gotten worse? I'm also have slightly VS, but is mild and it's not always present.

How long did it take for you to habituate/get used to tinnitus?

Noise, was always noise. Tried my best to protect myself, but didn't work out. I wonder sometimes how people can have it for 10 years and not have a single worsening, while I stay extreme cautious and I have multiple worsenings within less than 2 years. Fuck my luck.

How loud is yours? What masks it? I had problems to getting used to mine in the past because of my covert narcissist personality disorder (now mostly resolved thankfully). Do you have mental health problems that were present before tinnitus?

Yeah, I feel you. I think maybe you're having a spike, it may subside in a few weeks.

Before tinnitus I had a very slight depression, but I was functional and happy. I had a normal life.

I wonder how you managed to got used to it and carry on, do you have any tips?

My first level was very low once I got over the anxiety. I only heard it when looking for it in silent rooms. I got there because I learned that pretty much any distraction was enough for me to not hear it. After my worsening it took a while to figure out it was still quite silent without anxiety. Then I stopped caring again. Mental health problems definitely can cause problems with habituation.

I love how my dad always goes that I have to think positively because "that's the only way". I am always wondering whether he realizes that there that other way (suicide). There's a limit to how little life quality I am willing to accept.

Off topic about the Tinnitus although I do suffer from it but really interested as to what helped you with the CNPD?

Trying to accept my vulnerable self. And my dad supporting me in a vulnerable moment. I guess that was what I always needed. Just some real emotional support.
