I've been watching suicide documentaries quite a bit lately. I guess it's because I'm going to ctb soon and just seeing how people live and cope with it interests me.
Anyone know some good ones worth watching?

Here are the ones I've seen so far that I've enjoyed:

- 32 Pills: My Sister's Suicide

- Jessica's Tree

That Kaitlyn story is truly heartbreaking:(

There is one called Boy Interuppted- he had bi-polar, he nearly recovered by having something called Milieu therapy-but family couldnt afford to keep it up and he relapsed-the boys parents directed the film-it is also very heart breaking.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8793990/ heres another. it mainly deals with how the family cope with the grief afterwards.

Yes the Kaitlyn story is horrible. It totally devastated me. Very sad.

Have seen Boy Interrupted a long time ago. Thats a good documentary. Thanks for reminding me, might rewatch it. Didnt know it was directed by his parents. Yes it is also very sad.

I hadnt watched the KND one-I didnt realise she was still alive after all that time and actually passed in the hospital-why do people have kids to then go on and treat them this way! :aw:

The Katelyn one is so heartbreaking. I actually just saw Boy Interrupted a few days ago too!
Thank you for sharing these documentaries with me, I appreciate it.

I recently finished seeing this one and just, wow:

This is a good one too, it isn't fully about suicide, but a good watch:

For those that are interested in Boy Interrupted (just in case):

Not exactly a documentary, but I'm about to watch Christine, a movie about Christine Chubbuck who was a news reporter that committed suicide on live television (You can watch it on netflix):

Currently watching The Departure:
Ittetsu Nemoto, a former punk-turned-Buddhist priest in Japan, has made a career out of helping suicidal people find reasons to live. But this work has come increasingly at the cost of his own family and health, as he refuses to draw lines between those he counsels and himself.

For those that have Amazon Prime, it's on there.

I don't wanna see romanticized or sensationalist films with ominous manipulative music overlaid. Are there any death-positive, calm, methodical films that make the case for rational suicide?

How to Die in Oregon is definitely one of them, it's about assisted suicide and terminal illness. As well as Terry Pratchett: Choosing to Die:

that was so good & so sad, hes seems like such a lovely man, Terry-P. The man in 40s made me sad-but his mother was rather understanding and kind, she didnt want to be selfish even though she loves him so much. Very moving. Made me wish i could go to Switzerland 4 it so much though!
