Former ER star Vanessa Marquez, 49, is shot dead by cops after pulling a BB gun on them during a welfare check one year after accusing George Clooney of blacklisting her
Police in California who were summoned to perform a welfare check on former ER star Vanessa Marquez on Thursday shot and killed her after they say she threatened them with a realistic-looking BB gun.

The incident began unfolding just before noon when South Pasadena police officers responded to a home in the 1100 block of Fremont Avenue after getting a call about a 49-year-old woman suffering from seizures.

Sheriff's Homicide Lt Joe Mendoza said the woman, later identified by sources and commenters on Twitter as Marquez, had eating

Three officers and a mental health care worker who was summoned to the scene spent 90 minutes trying to administer aid to her, during which time Marquez was allegedly 'extremely uncooperative.'

At around 2pm, police say the woman grabbed what looked like a semiautomatic handgun and pointed it at the officers, prompting them to open fire on her.

As The South Pasadenan first reported, The Stand and Deliver actress was struck at least once in the torso and taken to a hospital, where she died of her injuries.

Lt Mendoza said that the woman's gun that was seized from the house turned out to be a replica of a semi-automatic handgun.

Police say they had been to Marquez's home on many occasions in the past, reported KABC.

On Thursday morning, it was the woman's landlord who summoned them after becoming concerned for her well-being.

The Sheriff's Homicide Bureau has launched an investigation into the officer-involved shooting.

Marquez is best known for playing nurse Wendy Goldman on the popular NBC medical drama ER starring George Clooney between 1994 and 1997.

Last year, Marquez publicly accused the Oscar-winning actor and director of playing helping blacklist her after she spoke out about alleged harassment on the set of ER, including being subjected to racist and sexist remarks.

Clooney responded by insisting that he had no idea Marquez had been blacklisted and had played no part in it.

This scares me. No wonder she killed herself. I would have done the same. The landlord killed her

Had the cops visit me last night. Not going into details why (frankly I don't know why they were called), but it definitely made me even more suicidal (as if that was possible).

I read them the riot act, telling them my civil rights were being violated.

They left.

Never trust a cop.

I had a recent encounter with the cops too I told them I did not need any help and they left me alone. I was eyeing my drugs in case I needed to quickly down them if they wanted to escalate things

She had obviously had mental health issues for a very long time .
She was in other stuff after E.R. so she cant have been blacklisted and she was hardly an A rate actor , there are thousands of actors who are in top rated series who hardly have work offers once the show finishes or they leave .
George Clooney was just an actor in his 1st role, not the "superstar" he is his today how would he have had the "power" to blacklist her back then ?

and i agree never trust a cop , contrary to popular belief the UK cops have guns ,

Thanks to Terrorism now we have a lot more and they are authorised for shoot to kill if you are suspected to be a serious risk to others. This has to be well established though as in intel, witness ir victim already seen.
If you were just running around with a knife they would likely tase you 1st or rubber bullet you in a stand off.
It's not all that common for a police officer to have either the authority for a shoot to kill or equally use it.
more likely to have deadly force used against you with their batton which they are allowed to do if you pose a risk to them that could cause death or serious injury. They are all trained in where to hit you or not depending on the severity of your own actions.

unless of course you strap a suicide vest on. Then it's ta'da for you as armed police will have Gold approshoot you with a real bullet.

In some areas Taser is now an optional training for all officers who want to carry one. Other counties still have the "only ARV" can carry taser.
sussex is an optional training for Taser area. Nearly every officer carries one now.

I think they shoukd all be allowed to useTaser. It's not very fair that they keep getting attacked like they do and are bound by political red tape so cannot do anything...

Thats not to say I trust them though... i'm by far the worst person when it comes to them. I have had too many bad experiences in the past with them. Before they went all snowflake and understaffed.

now i'm well off topic.. apologies...

Emissary of the right to die.

I wouldn't really consider suicide by cop not solely because it's selfish and may traumatize the innocent officer (that's a reason but not the main reason), but more because of the fact that you may/not succeed in dying. While there are a fair amount of suicide by cop cases where the individual does die, there are also quite a few that survive, oftenly ending up in a worse situation (permanent injury, being a vegetable, and of course, facing criminal charges for threatening an cop). Then for those that do die, some of them don't die immediately (either on the way to the emergency room, or even at the hospital while receiving treatment).

So the reliability reason alone is more than enough for me to swear off from this method to CTB. If I wanted to CTB, I want 100% control over the whole process and as much as I can on my own terms (painless, reliable, dignified death)
