It's been several years since I tried therapy. In the past it's always been in person and I've not been able to open up fully about the traumas I carry around daily. I usually go to a few sessions, they tell me to get out more, I agree, and I get discharged.

I have a bit more optimism this time though because the therapy is online, via the NHS, and is an instant messaging format. I mean two weeks ago I was relatively enjoying life but it's all come crashing down around me with no light at the end of the tunnel. I was able to self-refer and my first hourly session is this evening. I know that I'll be able to write out my problems far easier than saying them in person.

I pray, please, please, this has to work for me or I'm doomed.

Just wanted to put this out there for anyone in the UK who is struggling and wants recovery. It's taken about ten days from first applying to getting an appointment.

Damn, they do text therapy? That seems a lot less intimidating than in person or (god forbid) having to talk on the phone. Cheers for the info.

I hope you get connected with someone suitable, have your efforts pay off and go back to enjoying life soon. Props for reaching out for help, that shit hard af.

Thank you. Yes it's surprising that they now do therapy in instant messaging format. I think the idea could potentially be good for those who find it hard to open up.

As I understand it so far, I'll log in via my laptop and it'll be my assigned therapist every week, for an hour. We have the option of video chatting but errrrm, no thanks. I'm kind of hopeful but also scared. Scared because everything I put my hopes into gets destroyed. I can't go on like this though. I'm also worried about opening up too much and them being like damn, this is a hopeless case. Or worse, that there'll be a knock at the door because they think I'm an unfit mother.

It all seems a little bit too good to be true. But we'll see.

I can definitely relate to this too, down to the unfit mother part (though considering the types of mothers out there neither of us would qualify). I am starting w a new therapist next week after several therapists not wanting to see me due to the severity of my "illness," including a therapist I trusted for three years with my deepest secrets. I definitely worry about welfare checks as well. This new therapist says she isn't concerned about my history, but we shall see when she actually finds out the full picture. I'm not optimistic. I hope this works well for you. It sounds like a great thing.

I'm glad that you can relate. I know it's all horrible but knowing I'm not alone in this dark place does bring some comfort. Sorry for what you're going through though and I hope things improve.

Congratulations on taking that step. You should be proud of yourself because it's a step closer to recovery.

I've also done distance therapy and find it much more practical than in person. I wouldn't feel like going. I also had the option of having therapy by message but honestly I had a hard time imagining that, so I chose to have therapy by call because then I could stay in bed and in my pajamas. And frankly it works and I prefer it.

I hope you get along well with your therapist and that therapy really helps you. I wish you all the luck in this world.

Thank you, I appreciate your kind words. The therapist was a good match. I hope you can continue on an upward trajectory. Blessings to you.

Wishing you the best of luck with therapy. I hope that being able to type out what you're feeling makes the process better and more effective for you. It's hard when things are falling apart around you to reach out so I'm happy that you were able to.

Thanks beautiful people. Your words are appreciated.

I'm logging out of this place now to try and focus on getting better. I'm pretty sure the energy of this place is contributing to my mind and soul being in perpetual darkness. Not a criticism, just a fact.

May you all find peace. I love you ❤
