Hi, I was wondering about this method. A stab wound to the heart/chest from a steak knife. This is not my method I am going with but one I want to discuss. Could it be possible to hit the heart with a steak knife and even if it missed the heart or got stopped but the rib cage would it be possible to still die if not found?

The phrase "fall on your sword" comes from the Roman method of ctb*. They would push their gladius under the breastbone or rest it against the floor and let gravity do its thing.

*Roman military. Roman aristocrats such as Seneca favoured opening an artery in a warm bath.

I think the rib cage and sternum are very, very hard to get past. You'd almost have to study anatomy to know exactly where to stick the blade. It's the same reason shooting yourself in the chest is a bad idea. This is also an incredibly painful and bloody way to go, I would think. I do wonder though if theres anywhere that you could use a knife and ctb in something less than excruciating pain.

If you are not a butcher or doctor then you do not have a very high chance of succeeding with stabbing yourself. You most likely will only have one chance to stab yourself because you will be paralyzed by the pain. So if you don't stab deep enough or find the right position, then this is not going to work.

Simply, very unlikely. You would have to have enormous willpower and be able to fight through the intense amounts of pain.
It's not unreasonable, but if you're going to go that way, at least get a real fucking knife, komrade.

Like a bowie knife.

Aim between the ribcages and fall on it. If you fail, you're going to puncture your lung and it's going TO BE BRUTAL.

Or you could find something better.

On the subject of knives and pain etc - what's the consensus on the availability of surgical-level lidocaine-type localised painkillers?

I watched a prison documentary about inmates that wanted to commit suicidal. Most of them said a very effective way would to turn your head until that big vein is popping out, slice a sharp knife across it and your dead before you hit the floor. Same thing with another key artery.
I would think trying to stab your chest with a steak knife would be very hard to control where your going with it, besides the fact your probably freaking out a little.

Dead before you hit the floor as in fatally wounded with no chance of saving but still conscious? Or as in total obliviousness dead?
