I'm just over a week old here and I love SS and all of you. You're a distraction and an escape at a very dark and desperate time.

Looking at old threads on this blog, I see plenty of old profiles last seen months ago after an active period. Obviously some gave up on ctb; some got better lives after venting here; some are in the hospital, rehab or worse. Still a lucky few must have succeeded in ctb.

Does anyone know the CTB success rate of the SS membership?

But we could count the successful ctb's we do know? It's what I meant to discuss rather than a hard roll-call. I guess am looking for hope that this safe space and 'therapy' does make it easier. I wana go.

I don't know that it's necessary relevant to have numbers and statistics. The basis of the forum is so people have a safe place to discuss suicide and suicidal thoughts without judgement.

Thanks @JustAboutDone. I'm driven by quandary - I lack a better word - being desperate to go but meeting a sophisticated set of circumstances. I failed partial hanging for days while in a quiet secluded cubicle in the city far from family. Then I spent a night in a far-flung motel where still fear immobilized my intentions to hang. I know it's silly and I hate myself, but the worms did grumble and crawl in my belly all night :(

Presently I'm sequestered in a guestroom at my sister's country house. Despite bearing visible ligature marks on the neck, I'm afforded some liberty with the drugs. Been sworn to the regimen.

It's private enough and doable, but the wrench is if to go at it again and hurt my faithful, loving pro-life family? Would that be betrayal?

I think that the only right time to ctb is when the pain of living is so bad you no longer feel any guilt or sadness for your family or loved ones. If you still have feelings that they will be sad then it's not the right time just yet. It's so difficult after failed attempts as part of you wants to do it again, but it's important to rest and give yourself a break so when it is the right time you have a clear mind and heart x

If you put a lot of thought and research into your suicide you will pretty much always succeed. People generally fail due to lack of proper research, not accouting for the mind resisting something lethal and so on. If you are really worried just use multiple lethal suicide methods.

Nah Noone would know this because some do it unannounced. But one thing is for sure, the success rate would be high.See, you are not going to die trying to overdose on sleeping pills and such. But the tried and tested methods seem to work.

True. One can do it when clearheaded. That's something that seems to work for most.

It seems unfair that you're all so logical while I feel irrational. I get the feeling most here are calmer than me :(

Suicide is more emotional (impulsive, etc) than rational (planned, reasoned out)...

I wonder how many here make truly rational choices. If you are mentally ill, are you not by definition, at least a little irrational?

As others have pointed out, there's no way of knowing. We also have to take into account that there are going to be lurkers we don't know about who ctb.

It's hard to tell. You could assume that people that stopped posted ctb but they could also have simply stop posted or thing changed in their life and they no longer need the site. It would be cool if we could somehow know who ctb and how they did so we could keep tally.
