hey everyone,

what's your past experience in respect of the remedial effect of sport?
Did it show any positive or maybe even a negative effect on your wellbeing?
Do sportive activities support you in the fight against depression?
How regularly and consistently do you do sport?

Hello, cardio is always good if properly "dosed". I enjoyed running before. The longer distance, the better is effect. Unfortunately, if you joined this path, you will have to do that constantly, because if you don't, you will feel that something is missing. I was literally hooked on running. Days without it are not so bright.

I found exercise had a really positive impact on my depressive state of mind and I'm sure there are studies there that support this practice.
That said I also found when exercise was over I experienced a sort of emotional 'crash' when the effect wore off - I suppose like a drug.

Exercise is probably the most reliable anti-depressant there is. I was a member of my local running club for ten years which also made it sociable.

Foolishly I let it lapse over a year ago...

Note to self: don't stop doing things that are helpful :notsure:

Makes me more sad because I was an athlete and an infantryman, now I'm too crippled to swim a single lap.

Good game.

I concur that sport/exercise is good for your mood, for me it was weight training. Best times of my life i doubt it was coincidence.

No, exercise has never helped me - except that my endurance has improved. However, I do it almost every day out of boredom.

It seems that my brain is too screwed up for exercise to have a positive effect.

Is walking an exercise? If it is, it never worked for me. Or maybe it did for some time, then it stopped. The few months I went to the gym caused me only angst and anxiety, only made me feel more alien. PE classes were pleasurable at the time, but all that remains are memories of frustration for not being able to keep up with fit people. I do not hate exercise, the benefits claimed by science just don't apply to me.
