• Hey Guest,

An update on the OFCOM situation: As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. OFCOM, the UK’s communications regulator, has singled out our community, demanding compliance with their Online Safety Act despite our minimal UK presence. This is a blatant overreach, and they have been sending letters pressuring us to comply with their censorship agenda.

Our platform is already blocked by many UK ISPs, yet they continue their attempts to stifle free speech. Standing up to this kind of regulatory overreach requires lots of resources to maintain our infrastructure and fight back against these unjust demands. If you value our community and want to support us during this time, we would greatly appreciate any and all donations.

Welcome back! I use Linux Mint too. I suggest using Gnome as desktop environment, you might want to look into that.

I've tried it a few times, but not yet. I do plan on eventually doing a full switch, though, as Windows just... Keeps getting worse.. in every aspect.. Literally even gaming as been way worse on W11 vs W10 for me with chronic stuttering whereas W10 was buttery smooth.
I do use Windows Subsystem for Linux, though, where I run Ubuntu ig. Way better/easier for network-related tasks.

I'll switch to it eventually once Windows 10 dies out, not using Win11 lol. I remember trying out Mint a couple months ago and found it a little difficult but that may be because I'm not used to Linux overall

In transition. Recently dual booted Mint with Windows 11 23H2 on my desktop and main machine, but not sure I can get away from Windows entirely on it. Laptop is Linux-only, mainly running TuxedoOS for now.

Only problem is that I have an NVIDIA GPU on my main machine and it doesn't run certain things as smoothly as on Windows or even the integrated Intel graphics on the much weaker laptop lol

If I were to switch to linux, I'd go with Kali linux with KDE. Why?

-Based on Debian, so some of the stock packages are rock solid and stable
-It has some nice hacking tools built-in
-Uses almost newest kernel and updates packages all the time (rolling-release)
-Current version of KDE is based on QT6, which makes it even faster and smoother.
-Look great out of the box, especially the Terminal

I have used Mint and others but have settled on POP!OS by system76. They are a privacy based company and fund the Distro mainly by selling PCs and laptops. This enables them to have funds to keep it updated rather than relying on donations or volunteers. The POP shop is an easy way to add (free) apps and you can encrypt the drive on install which involves logging to decrypt then logging into the OS. You can run it from a USB stick (a bit slower) or an external drive. I would say it is quite good for noobs to Linux..
I very much agree with the privacy advice on this site. When I saw Windows 10 and 11 have a built in keylogger by default and much more, you can use O&O Shutup Windows 10/11 to help stop some of the telemetry data sucking that goes on but Micro$oft keep changing things so it requires frequent updates. I stopped using Windows for anything but games and a couple of other things so no personal information goes on it.
I also have a degoogled Android for privacy.
I'll switch to it eventually once Windows 10 dies out, not using Win11 lol. I remember trying out Mint a couple months ago and found it a little difficult but that may be because I'm not used to Linux overall
Give POP!OS by system76 a try

I have used Ubuntu for work for 10 years now. I only use Windows for gaming.

Gave Mint a try while I had time to kill during COVID. Never looked back. Even got an old Surface and put Mint on it. 😆
