Well, I haven't seen this being talked about around here, so I'll open a thread on it.

To sum it up, I feel like social media plays a major role on my loneliness. When I don't have Instagram(disabled the account), I don't have as many worries.

So I truly think if you don't spend time using social media (tiktok, Instagram, Facebook, etc.) you might not be as lonely as you think.

Since I, for one, when I have social media activated, always think that someone might have the same mindset as I. And it also opens up a new path for loneliness that I really don't bother to consider before.

Anyway. I'm open to hearing your opinions on this matter.

There is a fundamental truth that this contains, which is that loneliness gets exacerbated when it's faced with its enemy. It's therefore essential to, as much as you can, avoid putting yourselves in these environments whereby your loneliness gets highlighted in your mind.

I wish you peace.

I ditched social media like 5 years ago and while it may have improved my mental health a bit it's far from solving everything thats for sure
(at least for me)

but yeah, I wouldnt recommend using that poison at all

It takes full advantage of our human nature to want to belong to a group and at the same time it's the greatest weapon to absolutley obliterate our mental health
its just like porn, you don't wanna come near it (no pun intended )
actually porn works in a similiar fashion, killing the dopamin receptors slowly by time ..
many also believe that porn is taking away mens masculinity over time (changing the brain physically)

I see a ton of terrible things that people do on social media and admit. These horrible things people speak of get tons of likes and engagement and it's gross. It makes me hate humanity. Also the oversexualization of everything that's it's almost normalized. It also completely ruined my self image and I'm sure it ruined others too. People can be terrible once they can hide behind a screen.

In a way, putting oneself in challenging situations to better themselves seems like a fair trade to most humans.
They, of course, consider life as precious, and so actually have goals that they have to pursue.
So, yes; socializing through such a media to improve social connections is actually quite a considerable way to stop being introverted; albeit a little hard but doable.
Most of them are pro-choice or pro-lifers.

I, personally, keep getting it back once a year to see if I actually can have a spot on society (mostly influence by the public and boredom). So I totally agree on that, as there are tons of humans there that want to die simply because of boredom?
I mean we all have our own reasons but if it's only because you can't do anything on life (i.e didn't even give it a chance and it didn't work; merely possessed that same train of thought to fit on that societal norm)
So, yes; it has a very major role when it comes to influencing the mind.

Oh, trust me, if you think it doesn't get worse on any point, it always does!
While I can confirm that many males who have have any sort of interaction with social media have majorly had their libido stimulated, and thus only seek others for pleasure, it's truly not the only reason. But yeah, there's always a majority, a minority, and the outcasts.
Humans, the way they're going, are only going for their downfall. Ofc when it comes to society & capitalism; science-wise, they're flying ; but that's not the subject on hand.

Yes, a pro-life worldview dictates that socialization, no matter how painful it may be, is essential. However, I believe one cannot reconcile the use of social media, as it is currently understood, with a pro-life worldview. Social media is commonly regarded as having caused immense harm to society, and although this is definitely true to an extent, I think what is primarily true is that it has highlighted the more shameful aspects of society that have always been there, and its continued existence is contingent on the purveyance of said aspects. Definitively, social media is not socialization in any meaningful sense, so it can and should be avoided.

Everyone is aware of it (especially after the movie 'the social dilemma'). Adaptation takes time and in this current digital era we're still figuring out how to co-exist with social media's bad side effects.

It's a very different site, but I deleted Reddit for similar reasons. I don't think human beings are evolved to deal with social media or even the internet really. We have struggled with adapting to the challenges of living in societies for thousands of years, of course, but I wonder if we have strayed too far from our hunter-gatherer roots. Or maybe I am just pearl-clutching and yearning for a sacred past that never existed.

I don't really feel the same. I don't talk to people in my real life at all, I feel like not having access to social media wouldn't change that. I would just turn to other kinds of entertainment. Like books or video games.

I grew up without mobile phones, without internet and ofc without social media which is only a development of the internet. Back then we had friends in our neighborhood irl we knew where sth (e.g. an underground party was planned) we could communicate with each others irl. We humans r social creatures. Imo social media is not the only cause of MH related issues but it plays a big role for MH issues nowadays youth is facing.

Social media cannot be generalized in its context bc I'd also consider SS as a kind of social media we are using in our lives today.
