Imagine being that one person who just doesn't know what to say which leads to them blabbering something stupid/get a bit hyper, is just a weird kid that's annoying, or possibly has tourettes. That's usually what defines me. I was a socially awkward teen since my childhood and I don't think it would ever change. Not that this really bothers me so much especially since I'm anti social but it does sometimes bite you in the back. I'm suffer mostly from my anxiety and OCD rather than the consequences of my social awkwardness.

Yup, I totally understand where you are coming from. That pretty much describes me, except my social awkwardness does make me suffer a lot (and I don't have OCD).

Understandable. I am awkward right now because I shut down, I mean really shut down, from news/politics/technology/pop culture for about 4 months. And I'm trying to be at a new job with all these people with really healthy outlooks on life and really rich family/friend interaction. And here's me answering "how was your weekend" Oh, just great, didn't do much...when I want to scream, well partial didn't work and I spent the entire time obsessing over that rather than do jack shit, because I feel like I'm a terrible person and did I mention I want to die?

I can relate to you as I have and been diagnosed with Aspergers when I was younger. It sucks to have this kind of ailment as it fucks up a lot of areas in life, including making friends, getting free passes at things, and even holding down employment. Aspergers has caused me to be socially awkward and alienate me from others, thus leading to social isolation.

I am in exactly the same situation as you, but I haven't quite shutdown from everything. I still listen to the news sometimes but I never listen to music since I got depressed.

Before I got depressed I wasn't that socially awkward though.

Big time, but I don't really see it as a disability, I view it as more of a enhancement as I find socially awkward people to be the best people! Most likely bias on my part lol. Society is fucked up, the less normal the better! That's why I enjoy this forum cause it's pretty much a socially awkward haven. A virtual island of misfit toys haha.

Does anyone else here do everything they can to hold on to the one person that gives them attention then fucks it up, almost like it's timed?

It does. Then I'm socially anxious due to being awkward, which causes me to be more awkward. I would love some social skills training, but that isn't an option around here.

I've always been socially awkward or out of place even though I force myself into social situations that allows me to interact with people more. Going to clubs like the goth club, you would think that you fit right in, but everyone in there is a social butterfly and you're struggling to combine relevant sentences without stumbling over your words.

Every single conversation I had with a person over the years have come out awkward or didn't last long. Or I said the wrong thing. It blows. I'll just be quiet.

Coolest and most thoughtful people I've ever come across were/are awkward. Hard to find the misfits though. Not very common

You can try just making sure you give a smile when you feel awkward. Or try saying something like "sorry I'm just tired" to relieve the tension from not being 'sociable'. It works for me usually.

I have recently started a new job and it has consequently been really difficult as I cannot be as openly unhappy /depressed as was able to in my previous job. Those ideas above have helped me as I had to be more sociable when in a new job, maybe it can help you.

Did you ever watch Sesame street? You could change your avatar to Oscar :)
