I read today on a hanging thread (not in resources) an apt description: hanging either cuts off blood (jugulars) or cuts off oxygen (cartoids). If you can access your cartoids, partial hanging is the most pleasant/least painful/fastest. (It seems to be a rather elusive holy grail akin to N.)*
I cannot access my cartoids and my experience of cutting off the blood is just too intense. See the hanging megathread in the resources sticky -- I tried positions two and four, no loss of consciousness after 30 seconds, multiple attempts; I tried position three but bailed before I put my full weight because it felt so intense. If I didn't have access to SN, I would have to practice position 3 a lot to be able to commit to following through.
I suggest searching for the two threads that lay out the anecdotal accounts of SN successes and failures. They also list the protocol each used if they disclosed it. This will give you a good idea of what symptoms may come up and whether you can tolerate them. For some the method is peaceful, for some it is tolerable, and for some it is intense.
* I am now going to call partial the poorest man's A. Everyone wants it, only a few can get it. Some get close and then can't get it again. For the lucky bastards who get it, we all feel a mix of happiness, envy, suspicion, and a guilty pinch of resentment.
I know. It's an awkward analogy. I'm working on it.
