Does anyone know the approximate shelf life of sn? Mine is about close to a year old and sealed but it does seem to have started to harden. It is sealed and in a zip lock bag. What can I do to test it to make sure it can be effective?
Thanks!
Peace/hugs

My vendor told me his had an expiracy date of 5 years. However i have been hearing here that if left sealed and away from air and humidity it can last almost indefinately. The hardening also seems to happen to everyone who keeps it for at least a month after buying it. It's normal i think.

All I know is, SN, if exposed to oxygen, becomes nitrate rather than nitrite, completely nullfying its CTB purpose. As far as I know, SN should turn your blood brown, dark, chocolate brown. So your best option is to make a small cut on your finger and let a drip of blood fall on a small dose of SN and see if the color changes. That being said, if your SN is sealed, then perhaps opening it for testing may be a bad idea altogether.

That is incorrect :)

Watch out for the SN patrol

Hahaha yeah man people seriously LOVE their SN in this forum. Better not to miss-quote any info about it or you gonna get banned here.

I mean, I can't deny I got two kilos of it inside a drawer so it's not like I don't appreciate it myself.

This site really has become the "Nitrite Forum"! When i got here SN was totally not the "go to" method. It was secondary at best. People were all focused on getting N, and even when they couldn´t get it there was more talk of CO and other inert gases like helium tanks and even hanging. SN was always discarded as an "poor man´s N" (and still is) and people didn´t know what to expect of it. The truth is, SN really stole the show and that´s totally behind the recent increased difficulty in obtaining it.

Slander . Slanderrrrrrrrrrr ! *runs at @Blutsager with an axe*

There are 6 different possible types of medications to be taken with SN , with an overall of more 300 possible brands , and regardless people have real anxiety about whether their SN is viable or every little aspect of it . So keeping things tight & clear is extremely helpful . Few members still don't believe there's no permenant damage after recovery even when there are 100s of SN cases . Some people are really fearful that their SN turned bad because of climate or packaging . I know we're only joking here but there's a point in this "SN Patrol" madness ;) I think by making things clearer people are less obsessed about the technical aspects (though it is therapeutic) and we have more 'air time' to discuss ctb itself . Clearing the clutter .

recent increased difficulty in obtaining it.
Care to elaborate ?

Some of the sellers from 2019 have stopped selling or demanding a justification for buying it.

That doesn't translate into difficulty obtaining it , for now , as there are other sellers . But yes , as you suggested , more SN incidents/discussions caused more awareness of authorities and some action taken that may jeopardize its availability . Big suppliers like APC Pure were already pressure by pro-lifers early on -- not so recently . Others may have been pressured by authorities in recent months . There is some ongoing ebb & flow . Sorry for quibbling I'm just careful about concluding 'SN is harder to obtain'
