They called a biohazard emergency and sealed off the area over sodium nitrite? They wore hazmat suits and oxygen tanks. Doesn't that seem like a huge overreaction? Sodium nitrite is only dangerous if you ingest it, it's not like its a dangerous gas that contaminates the air. Perhaps I'll only bring the SN I'm going to use to the hotel instead of the whole bottle....

Anyways, this hyperbolic reaction makes me nervous to ctb in a hotel even though I see no other option for myself (I guess I could do it in a tent in the middle of nowhere and then text the emergency services my coordinates with a scheduled text but this seems awfully depressing). I don't want to harm the business of the hotel, I don't want to worry other people at the hotel, and I certainly don't want negative press coverage of myself after I ctb as some dangerous madman who used a toxic chemical and was indifferent to the safety of others, I care a lot about the safety of other people and not harming them.

Its so annoying that after a lifetime of being misunderstood and being outcasted that you can't even leave this earth without worrying about your intentions and character being misunderstood. It's as if we're destined to be shamed and misunderstood even after we're dead, it's like the universe just can't give us a break even when we just want to leave and bother no one in doing so.

Sigh, people can be so frustrating sometimes. I just want to leave in peace, is that really too much to ask for fuck sakes when I'm dying on the inside and my heart and soul has been crushed already by the weight of life? Just let me go in peace, I'm not a bad guy I promise, please just give me a break for once.

It's sensible to take precautions until the nature of the chemical/toxin/pathogen is determined.

I definitely agree with you, but I also think that they may have overreacted a smidgen.

"There were nine ambulances at one point, as well as police and fire crews". Nine ambulances? Wtf. Howcome most sn deaths don't result in the hazmat ordeal

Maybe it was sodium azide? 9 ambulances, fire trucks and hazmat suits is pretty extreme.

Anyway, might be a reminder to everyone to purchase it before they make it even more difficult

Talk about over reacting. This is typical today, the hordes of govt no-work jobs have to "do" something to justify their existence, this is a perfect example.

I'm thinking perhaps it was unlabeled and they had no idea what kind of chemical they were dealing with. There might have also been some bad reporting going on because that's a lot of ambulances.

I saw this video from a paramedic or something the said they don't have the ability to treat methemoglobin on the field. So if they were trying to save that guy for 45 minutes outside of a hospital, they obviously didn't know what the deal was. They would have brought him to the hospital right away.

Many hydrogen sulfide discussions include recommending hanging signs warning of the danger. Maybe there was something to trigger that kind of response. First responders have been injured that way before.

England:heh: Probably they worry about new cases with novichok or polonium. There aren't reasons for same overreaction in other countries.

I don't recall any references in the Forum to this case:

Thanks for this. This is one of my biggest fears. I still plan on taking SN in a hotel in hopes that it will minimize the stress on my family & their home. From what I've learned about SN & typical hotel protocol I think (& hope) that this was an overreaction by ignorant authorities.
recommending hanging signs warning of the danger.
Yep. I ordered a couple of writable danger signs to put up in the room when I go. To warn authorities & hopefully protect the employees from seeing my corpse.

If I Ctb in a hotel i will put a note for the cleaners too just so they don't have to see my body but as far as safety. SN can't hurt anyone else if not ingested. A danger sign will cause an overreaction.

Calm down .. sorry to interject but if you had found a dead person all blue in suspicious circumstances -- wouldn't you suspect option of poisonous gas?

SN was revealed after they entered / at inquest. If some other nasty thing had happened there would be a public outcry -- why weren't rescue services ready and prepared? That's why they were so many ambulances. They did their best to make sure dozens of people would be safe, in case. Better false scare than full-on disaster.

I don't think authorities are fear-mongering SN or overreacting (hindsight etc). I understand the mistrust and frustration over misrepresentation. But taking that incident to this place is arousing more fear than it should

[EDIT] if worried put a note at entrance (inside room): "This SN poisoning is not dangerous. Well, I'm kinda dead."

I just read that article too and was very surprised as well, just like you mentioned, how weird that they wore hazmat suits as if it's some kind of poison gas or something, that's really ridiculous. Isn't it just basically a concentration of salt?!?

Maybe it's because they didn't know what it was so they just erred on the side of caution. From everything I've read, it's not going to affect anyone else in the room or even in the building, or even the block, only if they eat it.

Yes, Many mean people especially are frustrating, like machines with a tiny dot of a black soul.

Many other people are simply brainwashed without their knowledge or consent, it's like they don't know that they don't know. Some are so cruel they inflict huge damage. I know it still is upsetting to encounter because it disrespects your dignity as a human being, I often remind myself that so many of them are just like dumb cows it cannot even think passed an inch in front of their face.
(Nothing against cows personally, I'm just referring more to their lack of brains)

Don't worry about the opinion of simple-minded cows...

& I know that's easier said than done... everybody should be treated with respect.

It's just my way of trying to help you a little bit, please remember they literally don't know any better.
They have so little intellectual ability to comprehend anything beyond point A, so to speak. They remind me of the level of idiocy displayed when someone gets angry they have to change lanes to go around someone driving the speed limit in the correct lane and behave as if it's an affront to them personally when The entire time, they are the ones who are completely oblivious to a reasonable fact of someone trying to stay safe and avoid getting a speeding ticket.

It's like they are not even able to think of that when it's so obvious. Unfortunately.

They're not capable of thinking on a higher level like you clearly are, their brain literally cannot comprehend it. I don't know if that helps you a bit, but those are my good intentions anyway.

Please don't let their opinion bother you. You seem intelligent, and perhaps a different perspective could be, you should only value the opinions of other intelligent people! :halo:

FYI, I'm actually an animal rights person, and have worked in animal rescue groups, so I love cows, Lol, but not their brains!

My thought on this (which I also posted in another thread) :

You could probably leave the labelled bottle next to you, along with a large note, with large lettering, such as :

"I have taken sodium nitrite. This substance is only harmful if ingested in significant quantities. It does not pose a hazard to anybody unless somebody were to ingest a large amount. It is regularly found in kitchens, for meat preservation. It is no more dangerous than a bottle of bleach or detergent, so no bio hazard team, etc, need be involved."

Just my thoughts:
In some places, hazmat (usually fire brigade) is routinely called when an unknown powder or liquid is found with a body, especially if they need to keep their training/response team "at the top of their game".
Don't overthink this, people. Do purchase supplies before they become a regular feature on the news, however.
