What you're talking about is N. N is used in dignitas and the other assisted suicide places. SN is an alternative and it's not as peaceful but easily attainable. N is not easy to get, it's almost impossible unless you got a lot of time and money to waste

Make sure it's very well stored. If ANY oxygen gets into it apparently it slowly changes from nitrite to nitrate (which is bad).

I wondered if you put in a silica gel pouch if it would last longer? (if you needed it to last)

I guess if it's in a bottle you don't really have to worry about oxygen getting into it.

i've read it never goes bad unless you open it and expose it to air. if stored in airtight in dark cool place then it lasts for a lifetime, potency may decrease a little bit over time.

your talking about N, the thread is about SN. both are attainable if you know how, N is probably the harder of the two.depends where you live though etc

I'm always scared of it going bad even though I never opened the bottle and because my house is like 27°C and it's stored in a wooden drawer beside a window.

Unfortunately that's not an option for me because other people use the fridge.

I don't know, if I manage to get any I won't be worrying about storing it, I'll be using it.

True, but lots of people don't manage to get it in a bottle. Also, people talk about getting it tested, if you open it to test it air will get in.

I got a small fridge for my room. Even though I live alone just in case my family decide to visit.
Oh my room is always locked.

Well I wanna assume it's okay as long as it's sealed and it's not unbearably hot.

I believe fridges are high in moisture which would increase it's chance of going off far more quickly than stored in a cool dark space. Do you store your salt in the fridge? No as it will make it moist. Unless you are unable to keep it cool, I do not believe a fridge is a good idea due to the high amount of moisture.

I can totally understand where your coming from, i don't actually know the answer. It was just something i had read and said it could be true rather than do it!

But we do put meats that are cured(using SN) in the fridge don't we?

I think I just read something that says they ae putting less into meats because of its reaction when refrigerated, if i read it correctly!!!

How cool does it need to be do you think? I wouldn't describe the drawer I'm storing it in as warm, but it's not as cool as, say, a ceramic floor and it's in a room that's around 27-28°C.

OK so i just google searched it. I found a company and it said store at room tmperature!!

what if that temperature is 3,000,000 degress, give us a fucking clue mate!

EDIT from wikipedia

The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language identifies room temperature as around 20–22 °C (68–72 °F),[1] while the Oxford English Dictionary states that it is "conventionally taken as about 20 °C (68 °F)".[2]

OR

Definitions in science and industry
Temperature ranges are defined as room temperature for certain products and processes in industry, science, and consumer goods. For instance, for the shipping and storage of pharmaceuticals, the United States Pharmacopeia-National Formulary (USP-NF) defines controlled room temperature as between 20 to 25 °C (68 to 77 °F), with excursions between 15 to 30 °C (59 to 86 °F) allowed, provided the mean kinetic temperature does not exceed 25 °C (77 °F).[10] The European Pharmacopoeia defines it as being simply 15 to 25 °C (59 to 77 °F), and the Japanese Pharmacopeia defines "ordinary temperature" as 15 to 25 °C (59 to 77 °F), with room temperature being 1 to 30 °C (34 to 86 °F).[11][12] Merriam-Webster gives as a medical definition a range of 15 to 25 °C (59 to 77 °F) as being suitable for human occupancy, and at which laboratory experiments are usually performed

There is a significant difference between cured meat and pure salts, I do not believe they should be compared. Please don't compare two very different things and imply they are similar.

@Holloet The above person gave a good answer to your question. If you can store it in a dry, dark space, hopefully that would be fine for it. The higher the temperature, the shorter the shelf life so don't rely on it being ok in 3 years time if at high temperatures.

I have not once said do this or that. I have said i have read something..not do it.

i then said we store meats with it? with a question mark at the end meaning i dont know the answer, its a question!

I have also google searched, found a manufacturer that says 'room' temperature.posted what room temperature means in both normal and scientific terms.

But you then say it's... 'probably'...... going to be ok in a cool, dark place!!

27°C/81°F are said to be too hot for room temperature, that's kinda scary. I can't really change it. It doesn't feel super hot, so I'm not sure how that works or if living in a hot region matters.

I didnt read it all.i guess it would be best go off the scientific view rather than just the 'normal' view, as it would seem more relevant to what we are talking about.

I just found that by searching what room temperature is on google, and on a research chem site the manufacturer said room temperature.

I just found this aswell, its pretty much what a few places iv'e googled have said. none give specific temperatures. so i would say we then have to go off the room temperature info

Keep away from heat, sparks, and flame. Do not store near combustible materials. Store in a tightly closed container. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances. Do not expose to air. Store protected from moisture. Store under an inert atmosphere.

Well woods combustable, but i do not have a clue why it would set wood on fire. perhaps its if their was a fire it increases the ferocity of it...but thats a total guess. Mines in a sealed bottle, inside a sealed box(what you get protein powder in).

Alot of it might be to cover their own arse with, but don't quote me on that!!
