Hi everyone,

my preferred method is SN (have everything apart from meto), but I am also leaning towards N (knowing the difficulties in procuring it), for two reasons - one obviously is the sheer lethality, the other the cyanosis connected to SN.

I would be CTBing in a hotel, around 8/9 PM, so even if I failed and survived until the morning I could hopefully still have enough time to bolt and find another place until my skin tone was back to normal.

However, I'm also thinking about the impact on my friends if I succeed. I don't particularly care much about what my body will look like, but I know other people might. Now, I have googled cyanosis, and also not so long ago someone posted a sort of "autopsy" article here - and the images vary from somewhat disconcerting to extremely disturbing (even knowing the fact that no dead body looks particularly pretty). So, here is my question - how would you react if your close one looked like this? I'm not planning an open casket, but there will have to be the body identification, and I guess some of them will want to see me for the last time. If I gather that cyanosis might be too much to bear, then I think I'll see if I can actually get N.

Thanks for your answers.

I think I'd freak out. I'd be utterly perplexed as to why the person I was looking at had turned blue. But to be fair, if I was going to see a dead body (and have, it was pale white and blue, after hanging), I wouldn't be expecting an image of beauty or health. Plus, to identify you, you'd only need to see the face.

You won't be blue after embalming. Use the site search, a couple of threads have addressed mortuary body preparation and appearance very thoroughly and should lay any concerns...to rest.

Missed that part. The skin will not be back to normal until embalming, because the body is no longer functioning to do so.

I just want to thank you for your sense of humour, the "smurf in a casket" heading made me smile.

Thanks for pointing this out. However, I'm not from the US - and where I live embalming is still quite a rarity. Obviously, if I wanted an open casket it would be a necessity - but with a simple cremation I think it might be done without.

Nevertheless, a certain number of people will see me, and some of those will be my friends, even if just for ID purposes from a facial picture. So I guess the thing I'm asking is basically this - for you guys personally, is there such a huge difference between seeing a dead body after SN as opposed to one after N? Will it be easier for them to accept/mourn, if I'm looking more less like a paler version of myself (with the little detail that I'm dead).

Because if the answer is yes, then I think for my friends' sake (and the policemen, possible cleaners, etc.), I'd try to go with N.

If you can afford and are willing to take the risk of getting N, I would definitely do it. A more peaceful way to remember you and a more peaceful way to die.
