I'd give it a try, but I don't want to watch depressing things. But I do appreciate how many different kinds of anime there are. I feel like no matter what are your tastes, you can always find an anime that suits you.

I don't know if watching the *entire* anime is worth it, but this specific episode (17) had some great pro-choice commentary on suicide from Shuji.

Here's the summary from the website:

"After the death of his parents, a young Mirai Kakehashi is left in the care of his abusive relatives. Since then, he has become gloomy and depressed, leading him to attempt suicide on the evening of his middle school graduation. Mirai, however, is saved by a pure white girl named Nasse who introduces herself as a guardian angel wishing to give him happiness—by granting him supernatural powers and a chance to become the new God. In order to earn the position, he must defeat 12 other "God Candidates" within 999 days. Soon, Mirai begins a struggle to survive as a terrifying battle royale erupts between himself and the candidates looking to obtain the most power in the world."

To explain the power of the arrows in the briefest of ways: white arrows kill directly, & red arrows make the person whom you shoot fall in love with you for 33 days (thus enabling the shooter to manipulate them).

I loved that anime! Watched it back when I was 17. I heard the manga & light novel supposedly better reveal the darker/more manipulative side to Misaki, but I haven't read those yet.

I might look into episode seventeen that you mentioned. I looked into the anime and manga on the web and it's poorly reviewed -- so I think I'll pass on a full read or watch through. The manga art is very nice.

It most certainly is no Death Note. I just read/watched it for Shuji, basically.

I watched the episode(with no prior knowledge of anything about the series) and I wish I could say that I liked it but it was just really boring to me.
It felt like very little time was actually dedicated to suicide stuff which was super dissapointing.

Yeah, it's definitely not the greatest anime out there. It's just very rare to find any media with a portrayal of a pro-choice suicidal character, which is why I brought it up. I do wish they'd delved more into the topic.

Personally I didn't like the anime but I liked this character I identified with him but I'm pretty sure he will turn into a pro-choice or pro-life after a few episodes, the main character is also very disappointing doesn't want to kill anyone tsc

Yeah, Mirai annoys me because he thinks that just because he "recovered" that literally anyone else can too. He's like the former members of this website that recover, become anti-choicers, and then try to force their will upon us.

It's not as though I'm *unhappy* that they found a reason to live (it's quite the contrary, actually). I just wish that they'd stay out of our business and assume that their personal circumstances will automatically apply to everyone else on here. The unfortunate reality is that not everyone *is* capable of recovery.

(…Especially if you're addled by incurable disease, such as myself.
Where's their "magic wand" to fix all of my unbearably agonizing health problems? Maybe then I'd reconsider living).

If it follows the manga Shuji maintains his suicidality until the end. But he chooses to simply kill himself after becoming God instead of making suicide any less painful or distressful for people, which was super disappointing.
