Help Showing... Backbone?

I've been having a hard time showing backbone to some people who are just being really rude. I don't want to hurt them, but when I tell them like, oh, maybe I haven't done this work because I was busy thinking about offing myself or something like that, and this girl gives me this look of like "Are you F****** serious?" But she doesn't know the half of it. What are some good responses that show backbone for people like this, without obviously telling them that you're going to CTB? (these aren't friends of mine!)

I used to have a priorities list for each project on my mac in simpletext. I always knew what order I'd be working on things. Anyone hassled me about stuff I'd say 'Don't worry you are on this list but several more pressing things have come up and I have to clear them first. I'll get to your job as quickly as I can and let you know soon.'

I really like this one. It's a lot to remember though... anything shorter?

I meant more like without offending them or starting a fight. I said I didn't want to be mean, just show backbone

Just say you'll have it with them as soon as possible then. After all its the truth. You can't get it to them before its possible to let them have it.
