I've been thinking wether or not to delete everything (google account and everything connected to it like photos and social media and messages) before I attempt CTB as if to imply that I didn't exist in the first place. I don't want people to go through my socials or my phone, dig up pictures of me and possibly cry over it, yknow? It seems weird. I hope I made sense with my wording. How do you guys feel about it?

It does sound like the best idea to delete everything but still it could never really matter to us how others react to our death as we won't exist at that point, but I do like the sound of erasing everything as ideally I would wish to be completely forgotten about.

First you need to make sure that you actually delete it. When you "delete" something on more or less any device the device simply marks that space as free and allows it to be over written by new data. If now there is no user to over write the data with new media, then it won't take too long for government officials or just your grandmother with Google to recover a lot of it.

To actually delete it you will have to find an application that overwrites this data and actually removes it instead of just marking it as available or just wreck the hard drive.

Not an answer to your question and you quite likely already knew this, but I wanted to make sure that it actually goes how you want it if you were to decide to wipe everything.

If you live in the EU you may also want to issue the right to be forgotten emails to social media and such, but law enforcement could still maybe get access to a decent chunk of stuff.

I've heard authorities will go through your devices if you die an unnatural death (ie: suicide) so I will be wiping everything except photos, for the sake of my parents.

I am one of those people who just don't have anything of value on any devices. All they would find is a bunch of dog pictures and memes.

What I will do is unlink my emails from everything and change my password for everything except Steam and Oculus so the fam can still enjoy my games if they want to.

Only thing I would be really leaving behind will be my notebook and a note or two. Maybe a "your mom" joke for the hell of it. Oh, and memes. A lot of memes.

Admittedly part of me is attention seeking, I don't want people to forget about me and often dream about doing some kind of 13 reasons why type suicide notes.
At the same time I guess it's better if that's curated instead of them seeing everything embarrassing about me. It'd be nice to do some housekeeping but I'm a bit of an emotional hoarder and can't bare to delete things so I'd probably keep stuff but not specifically make it easier to access or anything. That way it's up to fate if they can get into it they deserve it I guess. And in case of a failure I still have my stuff and it still exists out there.

Not if they can't find it?

I have fear of whether authorities make calls from the phone record even if there are only a couple of friends there
I may cancel my cell service and get rid of the phone before I go

This has always been my biggest concern, because what if I survive or decide not to do it at last and I just end up losing everything. I don't want them finding out about my spam account or twitter accounts it's embarassing but I also can't get myself to delete them because i've had them for years. As for being forgotten, idk if I want to be forgotten. I know that everyone has their own reasons to CTB but for me its not about lifting the burden for others, I could care less, all I did my entire life is accomadate others, to me its about finally giving myself the care and peace I deserve and getting away from the pain. So I hope when I die it does hurt others, except my mom, she's the only reason I haven't done it. Not because I wanna stay for her but I just can't imagine what it'd do to her, she's been through so much already but I just wanna go so badly.

I wonder if still being able to access pictures of you might actually be a comfort. It may be one of the only links they have left to you. I used to really value the photographs I had of relatives now passed. It will be theur choice as well- if they find it too upsetting, they can choose not to look.

I'm actually more concerned about them finding links to this place and the SN seller. Reckon at the minimum I may logout and clear browsing history. I may even self ban. I'm sure they CAN still find stuff if they're REALLY interested but they probably like to deal with (obvious) suicides as quickly as possible.

If that makes you feel more comfortable and peaceful, you should do what feels right for you. For me, I don't want to remove anything since I'm very sentimental and who I've assigned to get it in my will should have access to everything, I don't mind and I think they would appreciate it too.

My concern would be if the CTB fails and then all my stuff is gone.
