It won't work. Many decades ago people had barbiturates to sleep and could OD with that, but with benzos and other sleeping pills used today, you can't kill yourself. You can use them in conjunction with another method to keep anxiety at bay.

I will take a guess that you plan to take the sleeping pills to try to overcome SI. Your exit method is really partial hanging. The sleeping pills should relax you and help in carrying out your main method.
Myself, I plan on using Xanax not as a CTB method but to relax me and help overcome SI. My method is full suspension hanging.

Sure, making oneself drowsy or intoxicated can help the process along. I plan to be stoned af if I do partial.
