I think the idea is if you think positive, you feel positive and you do positive. The toughest part is thinking positive stuff consistently as our mind can go down a dark path so easily.
The concept of fake it till you make can be a starting point to your recovery of feeling better about yourself but I guess you have to be careful because if you get used to faking your happiness all the time, I don't see how that's any difference to apathy in the end.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. its suppose to be for bpd (borderline personality disorder) but i personally find that it can be good for general use as well.
I often go around smiling, but inside I'm crying all the time. Its a lie we all do, and often its best to hide our suffering, the outside world don't understand our suffering. I try to look on the bright side of life, sometimes, even that is sad and painful.
