Things have really been piling up lately, and it is very likely that I am going to fail university soon, my parents know that I am struggling with my studies but i refuse to open up to them. I have made a pervious attempt to ctb, however it was unsuccessful, only on person knows about my attempt, and he knows I won't talk to him. I self harm regularly, but in places no one sees so no one knows about that either. My mum knows that I am somewhat struggling mentally but she doesn't have any idea to what extent, part of me desperately wants to tell her everything, but I'm scared of how she'd react, I don't really want anyone knowing. I just want things to go back to normal again, but I don't want to be a burden. Is it worth telling her? I'd rather just die, but I can't do that to the people I love

I think you should tell her. You should also focus more on why you are struggling with university as oppose to your ctb thoughts. Good luck!

Just be prepared for her to barrage you with solutions.

You should tell her, but she might not understand or react in the way you want. Maybe she can offer useful solutions.

What will be her reaction do you think? Will she understand or will it make her even colder to you (even if she will try to seem supportive). Only you know that. If she will be really supportive, caring I think you should tell her.

I guess it just depends on your situation, I mean personally I would never tell anyone I was struggling as they would not understand and it would not be helpful to me. I'm the type of person who keeps things to myself. I guess for some people it can help to share how you are feeling as it gets your thoughts out of your head.

University is the time when several people collapse…

Everyone who has things pilling up… when university time arrive = collapse

This happened to me… Just talk about this to her…. It happens… (maybe happened to herself either)…

What have you got to lose by telling her? It's unlikely she'll have all the answers, but her support could be invaluable. Fwiw, I think you should tell her.

If she knows that you're "somewhat struggling mentally" then that might help in getting a better reaction. However given the fact that some of the above responses say yes, I want to add that in my case, my mom would be very very angry. It's one of the possible reactions in this situation and it might be worth considering.

Why would you tell her?
Either talk to her about the issues at hand, without mentioning suicide/wanting to ctb. That way you can get help with whatever it is.

Or don't say anything at all. If you mention ctb/wanting to kill yourself, goodbye to getting a so called 'perfect' method. Goodbye to having privacy…Hello to probably getting referred to wards or whatever.

idek why people are saying tell her. What good comes out of it?
Mention your struggles, not actually ctb
